Tinubu and Atiku are very smart politicians. One of the things that desroi June 12 was MKO's Choice of VP. Adedibu warned him not to pick someone who contested keenly against him because in Adedibu's word "Anyone who runs keenly against you actually wants your position not your deputy". However, Abiola feared the Governors and bowed to their wish of Kingibe, a man who almost defeated him at the Jos Convention of the SDP Presidential Primaries. When the struggle for June 12 got hot, I remembered reading TEMPO Magazine in front of BrodaChemist Owode Oyo, where I saw Kingibe being sworn in as the minister for External Affairs, the ticket of Abiola was torn into two unequal parts, months after he was disowned by the SDP Chairman who opted for ING. Abiola became a Political Orphan.

But looking at Atiku, he dodged this bullet by picking Okowa as against Wike recommended by PDP Governors, indeed, that was smart but unfortunately, Okowa's treacherous act against Wike may work against the ticket badly. Had Okowa shown interest in Atiku from the beginning, he would not have been seen today as a traitor. Okowa was part of the Governors who encouraged Wike to run, and he is from same zone with Wike. Too bad.

Tinubu, on the other hand, beat all his challengers silly. He defeated them in a manner clearly different from SDP Jos convention in 1993. Nobody was close. The gap represents the actual difference between the investment Tinubu made in the politics of Nigeria for over 30 years compared to others who came "yesterday". Although both Tinubu and Atiku never held public office since 2007, however, Atiku has been contesting since 2007, the last time Tinubu contested was 2003, yet, JAGABAN distanced himself electorally from his challengers who had mocked him and boasted to humiliate the greatest investor in the APC Political family. Tinubu is the name every aspirant who just cut their teeth politically mention whenever their desire is to make news headlines.

Tinubu didn't choose the way Atiku chose. Tinubu’s sense of judgement is sounder and sharper and because he was 100% with MKO Abiola unlike Atiku who joined later after losing to Abiola and later withdrew further after his failed attempt to become Abiola's running mate. Tinubu chose Shettima.

Shettima never contested with Tinubu. It was Shettima who started Tinubu’s campaign in Abuja at Yar'adua Centre. It was Shettima who was with Tinubu in every trip. It was Shettima who championed power shift to the South. It was Shettima who reminded APC Stakeholders about the giant strides of Asiwaju that gave the party victory in 2015. It was Shettima who stabilised Borno State without causing chaos with his successor. This points to one thing.....SHETTIMA is neither Kingibe nor Okowa.

June 12 may be another history struggling to repeat itself in 2023, however, Tinubu will ensure that only the positive of that history is retained in 2023 and errors that brought the negative will be avoided.

Nigeria will conquer the menace of religion, the godfatherism nature of religious leaders and associations.

You deliberately left the major point in today's politics -"The religion aspect " the major killer of the presidential ambition. There is more to the 'Muslim -muslim' ticket than many of you expect.

How old are you to be carrying religion on your head like this? Fun fact. Nigeria is one of the most religious nation on Earth but also one of the most troubled and dysfunctional.

Does it appear religion is helping you guys at all? The younger generation we look up to for visionary solutions, involving more emphasis on capacity than religious faith, are busy acting like reprobates.

Hard to see a way out for Nigeria with folks like you as the average youth.

By always emphasising what divides folks in any society, eg race or creed etal, you make it impossible for focus to be firmly on leadership capacity that has nothing to do with religion.

Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria
Even the youths of Nigeria are jaded and of limited use as opposed to youths elsewhere.

It is only in Nigeria we tend to go backwards as the years advances. Is it not time we begin advocating the complete removal of religious influence in politics?

Fashola, a man older than most members of Nairaland, speaks wisely below and one must wonder why Nigeria is full of youths with old, regressive and 'throwback thinking and mindset.

I am a Christian you unevolved troll. I have no reason to support a muslim-muslim ticket if unsophisticated and unexposed like you.

Unlike you, I am able to rise above petty sentiments and bias to focus squarely on the political and administrative capacity of members of the ticket rather than their faith.

Britain may be getting a Hindu Prime Minister in the form of Rishi Sunak but his religion is of no concern to Britons.

It is his capacity for the job that matters. Travel to the Nigeria and welcome to 1912 in 2022.

How is accentuating what divides us and causes bad blood, especially coming from the youths of Nigeria, a good or positive thing?

Is it not youths especially who should be leading the charge for religion to disappear in our public and political life?

I am not a Muslim. I'd accept atheist and atheist or traditional religion and sikh ticket if those tickets, to me, host the most politically and administratively competent hands available.

To the most sophisticated and exposed Nigerians, religion must be de-emphasised in our public and political life as a matter of utmost urgency. Not the other way round.

Religion causes so many problems in Nigeria. It is beyond me how some of you, especially youths, cannot take example from other climes to note that more secularity in political and administrative leadership is the way forward for Nigeria.

Religion should be private worship limited to homes and faith centres.

Why would they force Muslim Muslim ticket on Nigeria because you want to rule Nigeria?
There are thousands of Tinubu,Atiku, Obi and others in Nigeria, it's just the previliage that they do not have.

Even correct use of English language you Nigerian youths fail at woefully. Where is the 'force'?

A candidate has chosen his running mate. He commits no crime choosing said running mate. He has done nothing illegal either.

Why not simply reject him at the general election, as you are fully entitled to do, instead of insisting you are a prisoner when your freedom has not been curtailed in any way, shape or form?

Lol. How smart are dreamers campaigning for a candidate who, if he emerges President by some miracle, may be leading a nation without even 0.5% legislative support, authority or strenght?

Abi you think a President can decamp from Labour to PDP or APC? It is you Obi fans who are unrealistic, completely lacking pragmatism, bereft of the ability to think critically and not smart at all.

Is Fashola a Muslim or a Christian?

Is Fashola a member of another party?

Is Fashola a major decision maker in the APC?

Is Shetima the most experienced or reasonable person in the APC?

Are there no other sensible and experienced candidate in the APC?

Are the achievements of Shetima so fantastic to have earned him the spot ahead of other christians?

Are there no good Christian candidates in APC?

Let's leave sentiment and be truthful. The Muslims in Nigeria won't welcome the idea of Christian - Christian nomination.

Again, who is Fashola to tell us Shetima is/will be the best running mate to Tinubu?

Mumu. I am never a hypocrite or duplicitous person like most of you. Check my past post to see if I have ever talked about religion in any conversation about politics. Though born a Christian, I am near atheist in inclination today.

This is because I am exposed enough to note that religion causes majority of the serious problems in the world due to how practitioners, like you and most Nigerians, can never control fanatical, intolerant and fundamentalist approach to religious worship.

The best and most advanced nations of the world are those that make a deliberate effort to ensure secularity in public and political life.

Those nations work hard to deliberately reduce the influence of religion in politics and public administration because they understand its potentials to be divisive and disruptive.

We should be copying their successful examples and not moving backwards like losers who are regressing rather than evolving.

I am not sure at this stage that Peter Obi will win any state in Nigeria.

I have watched Obi on TV in the last two months and I think when questioned on issues he fumbles....he was asked on Arise TV about removal of subsidy and he was babbling, no solutions. I was personally disappointed cos he had said several times that subsidy should be removed. I don't think subsidy should be removed but Obi really had no reasonable thing to say other than yes and no on the question.

On channels TV last week he was asked about education and what he would do differently....he fumbled again....saying alot of incoherent stuff.....I began to wonder that if he talks like this in a presidential debate...he will come out as a fraud as the two older candidates will expose his lack of understanding...

Democracy is not a do or die nor is it a collective choice....it is rather the will of the majority.....if you continue to demean people for not supporting Obi you will turn many against him....besides Obi is 61....he's not a fresh mind himself

Bother not border. Secondly, your assertion does not "border" me. My point remains that people like you should stop giving a dog you hate a bad name to hang it by using deliberate deception and incitement.

No one is "forcing" anything on you. Vote who you want from the many candidates running. Asiwaju made his choice so why should those of you never interested in voting a Yoruba or APC politicians be insisting anyone is "forcing" any ticket on you?

Your vote, your choice. Stop writing as if it is otherwise.

PS, the average Nigerian leader may be incompetent but they are smarter than you because what Marx identified a long time ago is what they continue to use to control you and other Nigeria.

Kanu can send many gullible youths to their death in defence of Christianity from "moslem jihadists" while his children may grow up atheist in the Liberal and advanced UK.

Powerful Imams can send Muslim fanatics to exterminate "Christian Infidels" yet their children all mingle with folks of all faiths in Universities abroad, in Liberal nations like the UK, while they remain in Nigeria dividing Nigerians murderously along religious lines.

Good luck to you.

https://www.britannica.com/video/186414/opposition-religion-Karl-Marx

Karl Marx was a German philosopher, economist, and the least funny of the Marxes. In the snappily titled Contribution to the Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right, he famously called religion "the opium of the people," in that religion was not only used by those in power to oppress the workers, but it also made them feel better about being oppressed when they couldn't afford real opium.

He thought that if the comfort blanket of religion was taken away, at last the workers would have to do something about their terrible condition.
