You are absolutely right. At one time, bicycles were registered in Nigeria; I believe they must have had some sort of numbering then.

As long as you are on the road whether you are driving a car or riding a bicycle, one should obey traffic rules oh, even pedestrians have place where they must obey traffic rules, like using a foot bridge to cross the road etc

As long as you are driving or riding something on a major road, even if it is an ordinary tyre, you should not go one way. Not just because of Lastma but cos of your life and other pple's lives and properties.

BUT ARE YOU VERY SURE THEY ARRESTED HIM FOR THAT REASON? angry
Cos the pictures above looks like a bit of accident (the back tyre of the bicycle in the last pics looks bent) or distraction with a car. . .Compare the scene with the well dressed guys that came down from their car. Its definitely an accident!

You cant just snap pix on your way and insinuate any story around it.

Poster- I guess you are one of those who havent gone outside the small world that you occupy? Go and try that in London and see what will become of you with the police.

In London, driving your bike on the pavement talkless of in the wrong side of traffic will bring you problems with police. So, stop exhibiting your foolishness here.

It's a wrong thing to violate or flout traffic rules, whether bicyclist or motorist. It's proper to arrest him.

These set of  LASTA Officials, I guess, they have lost their bearing and have misplaced their focus. They should go after the reckless BUS drivers on the 3rd Mainland Bridge and the crazy OKADA riders who are killing people in their hundreds across the state. I think, these guys should be investigated by EFCC as soon as possible.

Why did you say they are crazy?  Is it that Nigerians are now so used to lawlessness that we no longer recognise acts of lawbreaking when we see them?  For the avoidance of doubt, any form of vehicle or contraption on wheels, from 'okadas', bicycles, carts to cars, is obliged to obey traffic rules.  One of the well-known traffic rules is that you should not drive against traffic.

1. You can enrol for the job and teach them by doing it better.
2. When you get there, see a bicycle riding on a one-way and on a major road and smile at it.

I don't know why you guys take so much pleasure in making Nigeria look worse than she is.

Its very simple, keep the rules and keep your change.
If you don't break no rule, no Policeman, Road Safety, LASTMA, Traffic Warden and so on would ask you for anything.
Its often we the law breakers that propose these money to the officials to allow us go scott-free after breaking the rules.
I have been driving my own vehicle for years in this same Nigeria and no 1 official has ever collected any money from me on the ground of anything.
Its simple like I said earlier, KEEP the RULES and KEEP your CHANGE.

Nigerians don't understand traffic regulations, is it not the same naija where they think zebra crossings are tom tom adverts? Those LASTMA guys are right to arrest anyone cycling against traffic.

I was expecting such a comment.
Most Nigerians don't realize bicycles can be a prize possession, my current cheap bike cost just under £300, my colleague just got a new bike for £650 (N162500).
From the look of it, that's a road bike. I can't make out the brand. Expensive road bikes can go for as high as £3000 and guess what, they don't look any different from what this guy is riding except you have an expert eye.
