Akara Is Not "Bean Cake",
Moinmoin is not "Bean Pudding",
Garri Is not "Cassava Flakes/Flour",
Ogi/Eko Is Not "Pap",
Eba is not "Baked Cassava Flour".
Abacha is not "African Salad",
Amala is Amala
Gbegiri is gbegiri
Obe Egunsi is Obe Egunsi
In fact, Iyan is not pounded yam.

New Generation should Respect and Propagate our Yoruba Culture of being a Great Blessing to Humanity and stop translating the names of Yoruba originally invented Foods and Yoruba Cuisines that has now become internationally popular, to what we don't know.

After all, you buy Pizza, Shawarma and Spaghetti (Italian Names or otherwise) and call it with their Italian names.

So why not let our Akara, Ekuru, Ogi Eko, Efo Riro and Moinmoin bear their original names in peace, so it can tell where it originates from anytime foreigners See or hear about them.

If a friend from the USA Or the UK asks you what you had for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Tell him you had Eba Or Akara, Amala, Ekuru, Efo Riro, etc

And if they don't know it. Let them Google search It. After all, that's also how we(The Africans) read about their cuisines on the internet and try it out by preparation.

Telling them you had bean cake or pap, to me doesn't mean you are exposed and educated. Some people would still make efforts to translate their indigenous names such Ayodele, Adebayo, Olayemi, Bolanle, Fayemi, Olagunju etc to English versions, o lagbara o!
Proudly Yoruba!!!!!!!

I don't know how to Prepare this, but those that know should please teach here. For those that may not know, below is Ekuru: another Yoruba invented food that has also fully gone International.

Ekuru is quite easy to make, if not very easy.
It's like making moinmoin, only you don't add any ingredients to the blended beans, except salt, then wrap in leaves and steam.
Then you prepare spicy obe ata with palm oil to eat with the ekuru.
I would even say it is easier to make than moinmoin.

Let's just say moinmoin is to ekuru as jollof is to white rice.

Yeah, there are two types of Ekuru; the dark one, which they make by blending the beans with the peel, and the white one, which they make without the peel.

Aren't the leaves the same as the ones they use in wrapping moinmoin?

Insightful. Even in Bahia and other parts of Brazil and the Caribbean, Akara is Akara although with slight intonationswink
Are Garri and Abacha also Yoruba food terms?
