Hard Starting On 2009 Honda Accord by senator2k9(m): 10:53pm On Aug 05, 2022
Hello Auto experts in the house. My Honda 2009 has difficulty in starting especially when the engine is very cold. I was told it was a failing fuel pump.

I changed the fuel pump yesterday n the problem still persist. Its that bad that when u park for just 5 mins, u will have to start it between 3 to 5 times before it will start.

My local kazeem told me it might be the ECT sensor.

I need advice before it will spoil my kick starter.

Could be anything from cold start sensor to anything in the fuel regulation system, to plugs and their cables.. Don't throw parts..

Re: Hard Starting On 2009 Honda Accord by Conner44: 1:14pm On Aug 08, 2022
There could be three separate issues or just one.

1. Your vtc solenoid or sensor is bad hence the hard starting issue.

2. Your timing chain or it’s tensioner rod has jumped/ is slack hence your hard starting issue.

3. Your brainbox is faulty and needs to be changed

Apart from your hard starting issue do you have any other issues with t he movement and sound of the engine when it’s started in the morning and when you’re driving about?

When you try to start it, on the occasions where it doesn’t start. Does the engine ‘turn/crank’ or does it just make a ‘click’ noise and does your dashboard light flicker at the moment it clicks?

Thanks for the insight sir.

Apart from the hard starting issue, the car moves very well. Power is very ok

Engine cranks normally... Just that it does not start.

Only what i noticed is a ticking sound inside engine when its on. I dnt knw if that's normal. Can i connect with you on WhatsApp?

omo thats wat i went thru. I scanned, serviced injectors, I changed fuel pump, changed sensors etc still yet it was still doing hard starting. Local mechanic ended up telling me it was ECU (Brainbox) problem.

It was at the point of buying brainbox the seller told me it wasn't brainbox that he will refer me to someone who's good at it. That's how I got it fixed till date. Even inside rain, it starts one kick

WhatsApp me, i can suggest some troubleshoot, cos i saw wat he was doing 08034059397

Many thanks and I appreciate your detailed response. After changing all you listed above, I was also told it was the brainbox so I remembered a guy who worked on my car few years ago and I traced his number alas, it was just a connection problem caused by the mechanic that worked on it the last time. My car is fine now

If you're in Lagos contact roadside assistant by going to www.requestmechanic.com click the red circle "click on Request Now" button to get immediate assistance . Also enter your email to join the waitlist bar and click on join the the Wait list.

When was the last time you had the following components serviced?
Battery
Spark plugs
Ignition coils
Air filter
Engine oil and filter
Once I have this information, I can provide you with some more specific troubleshooting steps or suggestions for what might be causing the problem.

In the meantime, here are some general things you can try:

Check the battery voltage. A cold battery can have less cranking power, so make sure it's fully charged. You can either test it yourself with a voltmeter or take it to an auto parts store to have it checked.
Try giving the engine a few extra seconds to crank before letting go of the key. This gives the fuel pump more time to pressurize the system.
If you haven't recently changed your spark plugs, consider doing so. Worn or fouled plugs can make it difficult for the engine to start, especially in cold weather.
Make sure you're using the correct type of oil for your car's climate. Thicker oil can be harder for the engine to turn over in cold weather.
