Get a lawyer too but if he is willing to settle out of court then he should treat her first, sign an undertaking never to repeat such again. And for punitive measure, demand for free 5 years accommodation on your own terms. Law is sweet at times if it's on your side.

What was ur brother doing when d landlord was assulting ur wife. Like he stood aloof and watch or what?? Ur brother must be stupid to have allowed ur wife got battered like that when he was there live and direct. He should have caused trouble on ur neck then proceed to explain matter to u. By now both parties would be licking their wounds and not just a party feeling pained.

While it is unacceptable for your landlord to assault your wife, you should also ask what your wife did or said to him. Some women do not know how to behave outside. They feel the way they talk to their hubby in the house is same way they will do to others outside.
I have seen a grown woman hold on to the shirt if a young man, slapping him, just one punch from this boy, see blood all over! By the time the hubby and his people came, behind the lady hearing, the hubby was elated his wife was taught a lesson.
