Atiku Made Such Crazy Promise & Youths Are Still Silent? by Vote4Obi: 10:07am On Aug 23, 2022
Yesterday, Atiku promised to hand over federal universities to states and private sector if elected president. Really, this is the most stupid policy anyone could ever imagine.

Federal universities are still the best in the country in terms of research, facilities, staffing, relatively low tuition etc. Yet Atiku is hoping to reduce them to the lower quality of state universities? Or make them so expensive and out of reach of most Nigerians like private universities?

Common, federal governments all over the world still fund some of the most prestigious universities so why would our own be different?

Most states are unable to upgrade facilities in their universities to be of standard. They can't even afford to employ enough qualified staff. They don't even fund research and they usually owe their lecturers so why would Atiku want to burden them more at the detriment of Nigerian youths and the education sector??!!

Atiku is obviously as bad as Buhari and Tinubu, so Nigerian youths BEWARE!!!

Atiku is a capitalist and he has never hidden it.... When he suggested sales of NNPC, APC insulted him... Now NNPC has been commercialised

Lagos State University, Osun State University, Kaduna State University and Anambra State University are all doing fine and not affected by strike...

The op has little or no idea about governance and economy.
Atiku promised devolution of power.
What does devolution of power means?
It simply means more resources to the states and local government.
If more resources is given to the states therefore they have to take more responsibility.

Moreover,He promised to give the university to the states and particularly the private sector.

Most of the Top rated university like Havard and others are own by private sector not the government.

You're ignorant. Devolution of power doesn't mean the federal government won't be involved in critical sectors of the economy.

In the first republic, there was devolution of power to the regions yet the federal government still built and owned the universities.

Atiku is unreasonable for making such stupid promise. You don't hand over federal universities to states that are already burdened with their own state universities, polytechnics and colleges.

That will further destroy our education sector!

Even in unitedu states No university is owned by the united states federal government.

Public universities in united states are owned and funded by their respective state government.

Nigeria wants to be like USA but we don't want to make courageous decision and policy like united States.

Let's applaud Atiku, At least this man have been telling us his plans of how to tackle some of our problems it's entirely up to us to agree with him or not.

Unlike Tinubu who has never mentioned any solutions he has other than Emi lokan and I built Lagos.

So in your definition, State can be allowed to controlled their resources e.g Oil,gold e.t c They can be allowed to control their own security e.g state police but they cannot control a university.

Tell me one university in United States that is owned by United States federal government.

Who built OAU? is it not regional government of southwest.

The Federal govt can't afford to continue subsidizing those citadels of corruption and mediocrity we call Federal Universities..I don't support handing them over to state govts but I suggest we either hand them over to ASUU to run independently or lease them to successful private universities to run for bouts of 25 years

The people shouting Obi up and down are the ones that took us to where we are today. They don't want to hear the truth. It scares them. Listen to Obi very well and you will see how empty he is. At least Atiku in solo has been able to show us a roadmap by the time his economic team is onboard we will be more assured of a brighter tomorrow. Not Obi, not Obi.

Did Atiku promise state control of resources?
Did he promise state control of police?

The United State government still contribute in funding their universities despite the states controlling their own resources but in Nigeria Atiku is promising to hand over universities to states that receive allocations from federal government? Does that even make sense?

Meanwhile, universities like UI, UNN etc were built by the federal government.

The writer is so myopic and unexposed. Atiku made lot of sense. You want Nigeria to be like U.S and U.K but don't want to practice what they do. In those developed nations, Federal government do not run Universities, it is state and region based. Devolution of power is what Nigeria needs at the moment. Our present structure is faulty

State and local government under State government controls over 60% of allocation

Stop saying what you don't know, it was the federal government under British rule that established University of Ibadan.

Atiku didn't give any solution to funding, he rather tried to run away from the responsibility of funding federal universities without providing alternative measures.

Virtually every state in Nigeria is struggling to meet up with its balance of payments because they get allocations from federal government.

Atiku should rather promise to hand over resources to states before even talking about handing over universities to states. That's unrealistic and unreasonable.

At the mention of Obi you BATs will immediately go on the defensive just to oppose him. If it was Obi that made this statement, I'm sure you would have attacked him yet you guys lie to yourselves he is not a threat.

Imagine how PDP and APC suddenly unite whenever it is assumed to be against Obi.

In America, states control resources within their states but in Nigeria, federal government controls everything and pays states allocations. Can't you see the difference?

Under the above scenario, it makes perfect sense for states to also shoulder responsibilities of assets and liabilities within their domains but in Nigeria, it is absolute foolishness to take resources/assets owned by states and still ask them to take care of their liabilities alone.

Anambra State would go broke without federal allocation, what resources do they have, what's their IGR?!

Niger Delta oil is the only reason Nigeria exist today.. without Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers State many states in Nigeria would be like Somalia

For you to even believe Atiku's crap that is inherently unrealistic based on existing conditions shows gullibility.

Firstly, there has to be full or semi resource control before you ask states to take full control of liabilities in their domains.

If FG isn't financially ok, then states would automatically not be ok too because they are fed by the federal government. If the federal universities are handed over to states based on the existing conditions, they would deteriorate badly.

It is gross mismanagement that caused the crises we are facing and a prudent leader such as Obi who is versed in management of resources would be able to turn the tide.

You used the wrong state as a case study, if there is any state that can survive independently in Nigeria today, that state is Anambra. You're asking what resources Anambra has? Are you kidding me? A relatively more industrialized state? The most commercially viable state in Nigeria? A state that also has oil and gas?

My dear Anambra has all it takes to manage itself successfully without outside help.

Atiku is just playing to the gallery to deceive gullible people or doesn't care if things get worse. Now ask yourself, is there any private university in Nigeria today where the masses can afford to send their children to? Can you name anyone?

Which states can afford to successfully manage federal universities now considering their poor financial state and run down most state universities are? Where are they going to get the money to fund them? From the existing one that can't even pay civil servants?

About IGR, the government of Soludo has centralized tax collection and also broadened it, so I expect their IGR to rise significantly going forward.

What do you mean by very poor infrastructure? Anambra has relatively developed infrastructure in its cities, more than most other states in Nigeria.

Landmass has nothing to do with development because Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria yet it contains the highest population.
