Nigerians may have to brace up for tough times next year following the revelation by the Spokesperson for the Presidential Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Festus Keyamo that conversation on the removal of fuel subsidy will commence next year.

Keyamo, who is also the Minister of State for Labour, disclosed this Tuesday during the unveiling of The Progressives Forum in Abuja, He revealed that the government now relies on the revenue from Customs, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and others to pay salaries.

The Minister admitted that petroleum subsidy was no longer sustainable, insisting that it has eaten deep into the country’s economy.

Keyamo stated: “As a progressive party, we believe there must be intervention in the lives of the very poor and the middle class. That is why we have conditional cash transfers to the very poor. That is the philosophy of President Muhammadu Buhari, that is the philosophy of APC. We care a lot for the poor.

“If it were to be other government existing today as I speak with you, there would be no subsidy now. But President Muhammadu Buhari said before we remove it, we need to put some measures in place to cushion the effect on the poor. Because there is no longer any justification to retain subsidy as I speak with you today.”

Keyamo stressed that even in the United States and the United Kingdom, the prices of petroleum have gone up more than four or five times. He added: “We are in government, we cannot hide it again from the masses, from the people. We must all keep saying that subsidy has eaten deep into our country, into our economy.

“Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is no longer remitting money to Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC). So all the money they earn goes to subsidy. So, the government has to rely on revenue from Customs, from Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), from others to pay salaries and other things.”

But it is still the sympathy that the President has for the poor because he feels that we have to put measures in place to cushion the effect on the poor before they remove subsidy. And that is why they’ve pushed it to sometime next year. The conversation on how to remove subsidy will begin.”

God help the government that will remove subsidy or inherit a removed subsidy to take effect after the removing goverment has left power.

Fix local refining before any subsidy removal.

You people are surely mad. You think you can fo.ol the youths all the time?

You increased the price of petrol by 100% without removing oil subsidy. Now you want to remove it, the price will become N500 per litter. On top harsh economy oooo. You stylishly push it for the next government. Why didn't you remove it before leaving office?

When the next government comes now, they will come with their own reasons why subsidy should remain. Awon crazy people.

We all expected that you build refinery first to absorb whatever shock that can come with subsidy removal. But here we are, no refinery, not even a filling station. Lol

The youths have resolved that the only way out is to vote out you guys ogbeni. We are voting wisely now. Reason we queued up to get our PVC. Thunder wey go fire una still dey do press up. You can continue to form groups that will throw tribal insults to derail the movement. God is our hope.

sad Government of liars, scammers, fraudsters and propagandists. So after all the shameless repeated lies of removing the same subsidy which they called a fraud, they're now coming clean? Lies always have a beginning & an expiry date.

Buhari and his apc used all the time they had to prepare for subsidy removal to blame the previous government.

Subsidy removal would have been possible when the economy was a bit better not now they have destroyed everything patapata.

Which one have they done? Absolutely nothing. They failed to revamp the moribund refineries nor fulfilled the one year-one refinery promise they made to Nigerians in their insatiable chant for telling incredible lies. The NNPC they refused to privatise is now a huge economic burden upon this nation.

Shameless party, now they want to follow Peter Obi's direction.

They should continue running Tinubus policies, and let's see where it ends.

Ok

They should also reduce the cost of government office holders salary by 70%

How can a councilor be collecting 500k+ as salary and a professor will be collecting stipends, police wey una carry gun give will be collecting money that can't buy bag of rice.

This are the things I expect a presidential candidate to address, coz if this issues is addressed, one grandpa wey know person wey know person won't be dying to become governor, then senator, then rep, later minister, then commissioner.

They recycle because they don't have plans.

The laws of Nigeria are made for the poor.

Once u serve as a politician, u try and not try to hold any office again.

Also there should be age limit and criteria before contesting for election.

One person never win election, na abroad em dey do meeting, every weekend.

What if e wins, Aso rock will be moved to the moon.

I pity Nigerians Sha.

Tinubu would not fail where Buhari failed.

Many of you knowing that it was Tinubu that packaged Buhari for Presidency, were now happy that he sidelined Tinubu who could have better advised him on how to grow the economy. Are we not all bearing the brunt?

Now Tinubu would go there and get the job done with his own team.

"Muhammadu Buhari, Yemi Osinbajo, and Bola Tinubu represent a triumvirate. They reinforce, reflect, and inflect each other. Both Tinubu and Osinbajo have been important props to Buhari’s ongoing disastrous regime of ungovernance. Without them, Buhari won’t be president.

They also helped plant, grow, and fertilize Buhari’s autocracy and monstrous incompetence every damn step of the way. In other words, Buhari, Osinbajo, and Tinubu are tarred with the same brush.

People who are picking favorites among these monsters of deceit and fraud are not only clueless, they are also enablers of Nigeria’s progressive descent to the nadir of hopelessness."

You mind that fella? They can only hoodwink the gullible. This is just like the Oshiomole's stupid attempt to exonerate Tinubu from the disastrous Buhari government. If anything, Tinubu’s judgement on leadership selections is more than enough proof of his lack of managerial acumen.

Those who believe that Tinubu has a peculiar skill for selecting worthwhile leaders should at least account for his prudence in fostering a crassly incompetent leader like Buhari, not once but twice! Buhari turned out to be a disaster during his first term, but Tinubu promoted him for a second term.

Anyone who watched Buhari’s recent interview with Channels Television cannot but conclude that though Buhari still has 17 months to go, Nigeria has already frittered away eight years of national life. We have been plagued with possibly the most incompetent and the most sociopathic leader in national history.

In 2015, Buhari was hardly a promising candidate, but things were not supposed to be this bad. The man did not solve any problem but, in fact, worsened every-thing with his impotence and sadistic arrogance. That was a leader Tinubu helped install twice and we
are supposed to trust his judgement again? No!

After the monumental disaster called Buhari, Nigeria cannot afford another leader whose driving motivation for the presidency is to merely fulfil a lifelong dream. Tinubu has a right to pursue his ambition but not at the expense of poor and long-suffering Nigerians already counting down to the days when Buhari’s nuisance will be escorted out of Aso Rock.

The 2023 election should be a turning point. Recruiting another bumbler as president jeopardises that chance. We can all agree that Nigeria deserves better than a candidate without a viable record of administrative success beyond the cheap propaganda retailed in the media and parroted by those who do not listen to their own thoughts before mouthing them

Is there anything you lots have been hiding from Nigerians before? Your incompetencies speaks for themselves. Keyamo happens to be the spokesman at this moment.

Foolish government that should be thinking of building more refineries and fixing faulty ones, but it's subsidy that is their problem.

Vote wisely Nigerians, because if APC mistakingly wins again, we will have to brace up for more suffering ahead. Sadly, it will be a downward spiral from then henceforth.

This is just cringe levels of cowardice, Buhari had never been one to face tough decisions. As usual, he has “delegated” this arduous task to the next government.

Buhari is a pro max version of atiku who is ready to contest presidential election till he enters the grave except he wins.
Tinubu fielded atiku and ribadu in his party but did not win.
The same atiku contested the primary with buhari in APC after the merger and
buhari won.
You don't expect tinubu to promote the d?candidate of the party at the primary election?
Even if the candidate is atiku or obi, tinubu did the right thing as a party man

Proposing removal of fuel 'subsidy' in June 2023, a month after buhari's tenure is the most wicked setup i have seen in recent time.
Why not remove it now during Buhari's tenure, why proposing 1 month after start of new government thereby creating problem for the new government to handle.
