One of the best books I ever read. I read it severally, read various versions, and watch a movie about it too.

"My name is Robinson Kreutznaer but, due to the usual corruption of English language, I'm called Robinson Crusoe"!

Very beautiful book indeed! I also love 'Jane Eyre'.

Gone are the days for real... cool

Yes, Native Son by Richard Wright is a remarkable novel about racism. Try and read the Black Boy and Uncle Tom leaves home by him.

You enjoy novels by African writers because the story is your story, your history, your themes, your setting, your characters. You feel you are the one doing the things the characters do and say, you easily ralate to their experience.

Will check it out.

Yes, reading is an exciting hobby. It keeps me well informed, entertained. I am always ahead of others when having scholarly discussions and it makes me versatile too.

Harry Potter is a great book, I read it and I also watched the movies.

Books like Native Son by Richard Wright, How Europe Underdevelop Africa by Roodney, Why We Struck by Adeyemoga, There Was A Country by Achebe, books from Oscar Wilde, Benard Shaw, Shakespearean sonnets and plays, Christopher Marlowe, Aristotle poetics, and classical writers like Horace, Sophocles and Longinus, French books and African classical books like African child by Camara Laye, The Blinkards by Kobina, and others will make an interesting read.

I see you are a lover of novels and books.
I love that.
I read a lot when younger but as I get older, distraction came in.
Love the old african writers like weep not child by Nguigi, The boy slave, Allan quatermine, King Solomon Mines.
Then to the modern writers like Dan Brown - Angels and Demons, Digital Fortress, Da Vinci Code.
Robert Ludlum is also good - Scorpio illusion and many more.
I also love The Godfather, Fools Die, Omertà by Mario Puzo and many more novels sha

Good to know we have many nairalanders here who read and love novels.
Mario Puzo - The Godfather is the best of his novels which was made into the popular Godfather film. Also read The Last Done by him too.
I don’t read again, so unfortunate due to many factors money and family being the major.
I read many novels most when I finished my ward waiting for admission and when I finished tertiary instruction looking for job.
Boring part of my life when I had no money, no gf, an introvert and the novels kept me sane and happy but now small change they hand, if it is not with friends clubbing, it may be women or social media or my business/farm etc

Most people are not scholarly inclined when it comes to reading and having scholarly discussions. The evidence is Nairaland for instance, how many people write well, spell well and punctuate well? You don't have to be discouraged. I still have people that will call me if writing, assignment or things like that come their way, that makes me Demigod. Distinguish yourself.

About favorite book, to be honest, I can't even name any book my favorite, because I enjoyed each one I read differently.

You should check these books out:
Black Boy by Richard Wright
Americana by Chimamamda Adichie
So Long A Letter by Mariam ma
William Shakespearean plays and sonnets
African child by Camara Laye
The old man and the medal by Ferdinand Oyono
Efuru by Flora Nwakpa
Second class citizen by Buchie Emecheta
Stillborn by Zainab Alkali
Weep Not Child
Devil on the Cross
I will marry when I want
Grain of wheat
Petals of blood, all by Ngugi Wa Thiongo
Violence by Festus Iyayi
The last duty by Okpehowo
There was a country by Chinua Achebe.

I totally agree! The consciousness of the populace is going under that even former readers are now glued to tv screens, forgetting that there's a huge difference between movies and books. Sad!
Thanks for the recommendations!
You could check out Anxious People by Frederick Backman for mystery and a touch of reality.

Yes, you are right. As one is growing older distractions are bound to set in. I am currently serving as NYSC Corp member in Gokana local government, Rivers State. And I can tell you that midlife crisis, anxieties and other things have drastically reduce my reading schedule.

Ngugi Wa Thiongo is one of the best writer out of Africa, my library have his books:

Weep Not Child
I will marry when I want
Petals of blood
Devil on the Cross
Grain of wheat
A minute glory
And other ones I can't remember the titles for now.

I have Angels and Demon

I have books from classical Greek writers and Roman writers, Elizabethan writers and old African writers to contemporary writers. It's good to be well informed.

I can relate but I think you can choose to have a different midlife. I think midlife is another opportunity to find yourself, to curate yourself, to become authentic with your needs and wants, to fulfil your own dreams, to become childlike again in your creative mind and dream far and wide. It is an opportunity to go out and play, and start living your authentic life.

Wow, nice one. She didn't read novels cos she hates words. Science students only like straight forward things like calculations and stuffs like that.
This your assumption is very wrong. I'm a science student, already with a degree in applied chemistry and I love reading novels a lot. I've seen several people around me who loves reading too.

Honestly, i enjoyed the time i had little financially and with no pressure of making more money.
Things were natural then and life was just simple and organic.
You enjoy it more then.
