Father cries out over inability to retrieve daughter’s corpse from hospital morgue over unpaid bills

The family of a 12-year-old student of New Era College in Benin City, Edo State, Glory Ekeleyede, has cried out for help to enable it to recover her body from the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) mortuary for burial.

Glory reportedly died July 15 at the UBTH following an illness, but the management of the hospital is said to have refused to release her corpse over the inability of the parents to settle an outstanding bill of almost N400,000.

This is saddening. But put sentiment and emotion away here. The hospital is a business and pity does not favour a business venture. Let the family open a gofundme for it. I myself will help. Or, any kindhearted rich person should help the family. I do not support the hospital releasing the corpse when the bill is still unpaid. It is not wickedness, it is business ethics. I have seen organizations go bankrupt in the process of being kind to clients and customers. I have seen friends and relatives abuse kindness.

Many of you condemning the hospital will still blame the hospital if the hospital fails to pay its workers tomorrow.

i disagree, the hospital is a biz (not a charity) and EVERYONE should pay their bills or not seek treatment...

if they dont have the money to pay up then let the hospital harvest her organs for profit...et voila!

tomorrow when the hospital has no money to pay for salaries/bills because everyone thinks it is a charity, you will be the same people complaining about it.
here is a clue: if you were a doctor/nurse working at that exact same hospital, would you accept it if the hospital tells you that they cant pay your salary because they decided to give free care to patient (instead of charging them)?
