Well mostly its for business. Each company gets each fones/brand tied to their network for many reasons but mostly so it can be easy for their customers to get em on a easy plans.

There r no wifi only iphones. Except something is wrong wit the baseband of the fone. If urs is wifi only due to network lock, y can get it unlocked. Via paid server or chip.

Thanks for ur reply, sometime last month, i removed the sim slot due to curiosity, then the phone got locked asking for PUK n all that, then i noticed it the icloud that was showing was m***************@msn.com
i took it to ikeja for them to unlock it back (wifi)
does this mean someone else used the phone then it got stolen so chip was used to bypass it making it use only wifi

1. Wrong question.

iPhones are not locked to networks. If you buy an original iPhone meant for Nigeria, it is not going to be locked to any network.

This locked stuff only happens when you buy a US or UK used or refurbished iphone from a 1st world country.

Why?

This is because network providers or companies buy iPhones directly from Apple and sells them at a loss to consumers. Phones that are sold to carriers are network locked so the carrier like AT&T, 3, O2 or T-Mobile can recoup their investment by forcing you to use their network.

2. Wrong again

All iPhones are factory built to use sim cards. The problem is that stolen iPhones have their IMEI locked so it cannot be accessed by a sim card.

You can use a chip unlocker to unlock the IMEI but if you factory reset the device, it is going to become locked again.

Other questions

Network locked means locked to a particular network e.g. only MTN or Glo, no other sim will work even though the phone is open.

iCloud lock means that the owner has remotely locked the phone via an iCloud account.

Chip unlock means to use a chip to unlock iphone that is network locked or icloud locked.

I wouldn't willingly or knowingly use a stolen device tho.

Yes, the phone should be able to if the chip unlock actually worked.

Any significant difference between factory unlock and worldwide unlocked iphone? Can a worldwide unlocked iphone be factory reset?
