FACT CHECK: Did The EIU Predict Tinubu As The Winner of Nigeria's 2023 Election? by socialmediaman: 12:46pm On Sep 23, 2022
This post is a reference to a suspicious story which appear to have originated from the Business Day and TheNation newspapers, and posted here on nairaland, that the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) had predicted Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 election.

In recent times, such stories have made it to the frontpage, but they turned out to be false.
https://www.nairaland.com/7347733/economist-intelligence-unit-predicts-tinubus
https://www.nairaland.com/7347971/eu-predict-tinubu-win-nigeria

I did a quick Investigation of this alleged prediction from the EIU which has been reported on some Nigerian news websites including the Cable.ng, The Nation, Legit.ng and Business Day from which the stories were posted on nairaland.

First, a google search of "economist intelligence unit Nigeria election" shows a list of articles published only by some of these Nigerian news websites mentioned above. No such article existed on The Economist Intelligence Unit website itself at the time of this research.

Checks on the websites revealed that the Cable.ng referred to it's source of information as BusinessDay. On checking Business Day, Iwok Iniobong who published the story did not reference his source for the report, just a mere mention of the EIU. If such a significant prediction was made by the EIU, it will be on the EIUnit website itself
https://www.thecable.ng/economist-intelligence-unit-predicts-victory-for-tinubu-in-2023-polls

https://businessday.ng/politics/article/economist-intelligence-unit-predicts-tinubus-victory/

In fact, the Economist Intelligence Unit has a page dedicated to Nigeria, which has political updates from Nigeria. No such information existed on that page https://country.eiu.com/nigeria

Further checks on the Nation newspaper website revealed that just like the Business Day website, there was no source for their story. Legit.ng from which the story was published on nairaland cited its source as the Nation newspaper
https://thenationonlineng.net/2023-economist-intelligence-unit-projects-tinubus-victory/

https://www.legit.ng/politics/1493824-economist-intelligence-unit-predicts-winner-nigerias-2023-presidential-election/

Conclusion: After an exhaustive research, it was clear that this was an endless loop, and I can conclude that there is no evidence to show that the Economist Intelligence Unit made such a prediction. These stories seem to have originated from the Business Day and the Nation Newspaper

When Tinubu was having a bad outing even on APC- online conducted gallup polls, his miscreants were saying election are not won online. But if any one predict a leading role for him, then they will latch on it like agbado and cassava then start munching.

That was just a mind game to force a fait accompli on the populace. It is done by extreme propagandists to hoodwink the masses.

Unfortunately they don't know how tenacious the people are holding the resentment of APC in their hearts.

If Multichoice is not able to get enough viewers for its annual reality show that normally divert the attention of the youths, no one should doubts the resolve of Nigerians in making a bold statement next year.

The 2023 presidential election in Nigeria must reflect the wishes of majority of Nigerians.

There's no time in history and no where in the world where human beings are given a free choice and they chose oppression and misery.

There is no time in world history that any freeborn adult sane humans chose insecurity over peace, hunger over prosperity or death over living.

APC signifies evil in Nigeria. Poverty, squalor, misery, destruction and death are the trademark of APC.

Sentiments aside, Tinubu is hated across Nigeria.

So many factors are just working against him. From his party, to his sense of entitlement, to his age, to his health and then to his running mate.

If he had carried a Christian vice, he might have had a chance cos northern Christians will pick him ahead of Atiku. Because wether we like it or not there are people who vote along religious lines.

Other than the PDP crisis, Atiku is far ahead of Tinubu in the voters minds.
