Why Do Nigerians Treat Medical Personnel's With Disdain? by IGpro1(m): 1:20pm On Oct 14, 2022
My post is in reponse to this post on rico swaveys death- https://www.nairaland.com/7382358/dying-rico-swavey-left-unattended

Let me start by saying its indeed painful to have lost Rico in such a painful manner. may his soul find rest in the the great beyond.

However, let's not be quick to always blame our medical personnel's for any wrong turn of event.
If you really watch that video, you'd notice it wasn't the nurses that were recording, no nurse will even be with her phone in such emergency. One nurse was even pleading with the people that brought the patient to help her place him on a bed,Of course they were all more interested in making news than saving life.
No one ever considers the mental and physical well being of our medical personnels.
In a society like ours, were the hospitals are under staffed and under equipped no one seems to blame the govt, but we all are so much in a hurry to blame the medics when a patient suffers harm or death.

Indeed some personnel's are guilty of negligence and medical malpractic, but those who try their best in saving lives should be commended.
I've worked in a general hospital were only the CNO her assistant are expected to attend to pregnant women, accident victims and out patients.
Staffing is a major issue, as a Doctor or nurse, you're expected to perform your duty even when you're physically exhausted.

Before you accuse a nurse of not performing her duty, kindly inquire about her well being.
-how long has she been on duty,
- are there more important cases on ground.
-is my person's case more critical than the other
-how many staff are on duty
-how long has the doctor been on duty.
-do they have the required equipment

The Govt hasn't fuctioned in it's capacity to provide quality and affordable health care to Nigerians, though health centers are available, they lack adequate man power.

Why do nigerian medical personnel violate their Hippocratic oat in favour of monetary gains and the highest bidder?
