The focus here is African women in African society discussed by Africans on an African forum.

Let the western world bury their dead.

You already know where my question was heading at, people cry about fairness when It doesn't benefit them & keep quiet and enjoy when It goes in their favor. The major reason Nigerian women specifically don't divorce is simply because the Divorce doesn't come with any financially benefit. Even in cases of domestic violence, they will stay put in the marriage because they know they stand to gain so little.

It's all about the benjamins, women aren't making any money from divorce hence nobody is calling for it.

Well, what do i know sef?
Afterall, i am only but a man...
But i think women are scared of divorce in nigeria because the nigerian society will not favour them.
Also, men are scared of divorce overseas because the system there favours female. So it is not about the gender, but the system and who it favours.

Bro, you have simply answered all the questions. People keep saying we aren't talking about overseas when we all know the reasons why people take decisions is when they stand to gain a lot.

Let's keep blaming society instead of telling ourselves the truth.

Thank you for summing the whole existence of a woman's effort on keeping her marriage going on financial benefits. Even though she might be enduring because of her children whom she wouldn't want to subject to the agony and stigmatism of coming from a broken home, or she's enduring being a punching bag because her family and friends would call her names, or the society would abhor her or church members will mock her or she doesn't even know how to start over.

To you it's only because she wouldn't get divorce benefits which she is entitled to BTW or does she have to train and provide for the children alone? . Your opinion has been duly Noted. Or Is there anything you would like to add?

Yes, people enduring being assaulted simply don't value their life. A first time physical violence is enough to reset your brain that the man is an abuser, so the excuse of staying put for the kids is still senseless. Society can say what they want to say, they aren't the ones putting food on your table. You can leave the church & move to another church. Who cares?

Women in Nigeria who are financially stable or from a stable background are always the first to leave marriages because they know they can handle themselves financially. The ones who stay are simply staying because they feel they stand to lose more than to gain.

I agree they are minor reasons to stay, but the major reason is finance, pure & simple!

Taking to her comment section, some ladies outlined why women aren't comfortable with divorce. They opined that African women have been programmed to believe they cannot survive without men in their lives

See the replies below...
Those ladies are right as that happens to be the major reason why most women shun the idea of divorce. undecided

Recall that many got married in the first place because they felt themselves incomplete without a man to provide for them. So, how can one easily expect such women to then vacate the same marriage after several more years of not moving forward financially from what was their initial state? undecided
