It baffles me when Nigerians complain that their country is not working. Each time I hear this, I look the complainer in the eyes and ask (inside myself though), what have you, in your capacity, done to make things work in Nigeria?

- governors, ministers, civil servants, etc are looting and stashing cash running into billions in their houses
- the appointed technocrats (most of whom are well-read - prof, PhD holders, etc) can't do without using their offices for self-enrichment
- oil-marketers are out there looking for every opportunity to hoard fuel and sell it at higher prices
- BDC hoard dollars to make it seem scarce and sell it at higher rate - sabotaging the economy
- Nigerian bankers are even worse than the BCDs and the reason giving dollars to banks instead of BCDs hasn't helped
- the so-called youths are mostly professional criminals (yahoo-yahoo, kidnappers, etc) looking for riches without commensurate efforts/work
- electricity distribution companies prefer to use estimated bills so they can extort consumers despite their obvious incompetence
- the churches are cashing in on their gullible followers and giving them false hope in exchange - creating billionaires without commensurate addition of value to our GDP
- nobody wants to farm or do hard work again - both literates and illiterates. And they all want to be rich in billions
- Nigerians now running to other countries (they call it japa) as if they don't work for money in those places

We need a madman to rule this country - I don't care how he comes - military or civilian.

Nigeria cant work, it doesnt matter if you bring the devil or an angel to rule Nigeria. There is something called "incompatible differences", meaning that the world view of people are at polar opposites. In other words, how a Yoruba sees things, is not how an Igbo man sees it, nor how a Hausa/Fulani man will see it

This means that all three will keep fighting forever, no matter who is President, until either of two things happen

Nigeria disintegrates and everyone goes their own way, nothing to fight about any more

Or

Nigeria is structured in such a way that everyone has their own area where they control much of what happens, and they dont have to fight at the centre because the centre is weak. This way, everyone can see things however they like in their own area.

Without either of these two things happening, the area today known as Nigeria will neither see peace or progess

The brains of Tinubu urchins switch like a simple pendulum in elementary physics. This minute it works well, the next second it starts acting up. It seems the brain of this urchin has returned to factory settings for now.

And you're sure there won't even be war at the regional level for the same reason if the country breaks up? In each region, there can still be feelings of marginalization, wanton corruption, indiscipline, etc. I don't think a breakup will solve those problems - remove corruption, indiscipline, and marginalization.

What did Obi do as a governor of Anambra? Anambra's situation today is worse than it was.

We only have bad rulers? What about those cheating and stealing from one another daily everywhere? What about the even the technocrat and professors appointed into government and all they do is stealing? Yes, I know part of the work of government is to reign in everybody by enforcing the rule of law but the scale of indiscipline and roguery in the country is daunting. I used to think the illiterates and touts at motor parks are the most indiscipline among us. Today, it is obvious that even the most educated among us (the professors, technocrats, etc) are not different seeing how they behave when appointed into administrative offices.

You're 100% right. Those were the reasons for abolishing regional govt to state because people were still marginalised

Continue wallowing in self-deceit. We can see igbos from other states flocking to Anambra the same way they flock to Lagos to trade and make quick cash to feed their impoverished families.

Fantastic post. The part in bold, if you are talking regional governance as I believe you are, is my personal preference because I know how difficult outright secession for any region will be.

In every country, there are evil and corrupt people but leadership makes all the difference. In the 90s the US had a serious mafia problem. There are all kinds of criminal gangs in the US. There, we see secondary school teachers impregnated by their students. Evil and corruption are everywhere. All that matters is sane and strong leadership.

It is convenient to put all the blames on leaders while we continue, individually, to act and behave in ways that are destructive. Leaders are from among us or are they from elsewhere?

What stops the followers from holding the leaders accountable? What stops you and I, if we are sure the leaders are the problem, from shutting down the country and chasing them out? Don't say the north or south won't join protests - you don't need everybody to be there. Most of the protests that changed governments only happened in key cities like Lagos, Cairo, Paris, etc. You don't need everybody.

So, I still believe there is a serious issue with followership in Nigeria.
You can imagine some unguided youths shouting Obi for nothing other than primordial sentiments (tribe and religion). The Obi that left no enviable track record in Anambra as a governor and an unprincipled man who jumps from party to party just to seek power.
