1. God gives us partners:

God is not a matchmaker, neither does he come down from heaven to select/effect our choice of spouse, not at all. And this is evident in Proverbs 18:22; He that finds a wife (not he that God finds a wife for) obtains favour from the Lord. God will never find a spouse for you as He has given us the ability to make choices for ourselves and admonishes us to choose rightly. Humans are created to be free moral agents.

2. God gives children:

We abuse this phrase a lot. A struggling family who can barely feed will keep producing kids, and when asked, they'll say, "na God dey give children". What a lame comment and accusation. Did God take your preeq and towtow and socket it together to make those babies your resources cannot cater for? Why are we in a haste to quote Gen 1:28; Be fruitful and multiply, and pin it down on kids? Why not be fruitful in the works of your hands?

3. God gives, He takes:

When we loss someone, we often hear this phrase; God gives, He takes. How, please? Is God a k*iller? So, if someone commits suici*de, God also took hin/her? I said, how?

In Jeremiah 29:11; He said, I know my thoughts for you, it's of GOOD and not EVIL, to give you an expected end. So, is suic*ide good? Is accident an expected end? I mean, are we expected to die mysteriously that will make us pin it on Him?
Please, God is not a kill*er and has no hand in human unfortunate occurrences.

4. Cleanliness is next to Godliness:

Total crap. This is not biblical but a phrase formed by overzealous Christians who associate God with everything, including dirt. Na wa oo!

5. Heaven helps those who help themselves:

Another crap that's not found in the bible. Yes, it's no where in the scriptures.

Have you ever come across Romans 9:15; I will show mercy on whom I choose? Ever wondered why that man you pray more than and carries the bible more than, is progressing more than you? This is not far fetched, it's simply God showing mercy on whom He chose, not because you are a better Christian.

6. Our success is tied to how religious we are:

I just dey laugh you. Oya go read Deuteronomy 28:12; He said He'll bless the works of your hands, not how long you carry the bible, cabash and jump in prayers.

Simply put, there is dignity in labour, not in religiosity.

Lastly, I'd have love to talk about tithing, however, this topic is sensitive and often draws emotions rather than logical thinking, hence, I'll just make an expository and allow us do our findings and make meaning for ourselves.

According to the Bible, tithe is purely reserved for the Levites who do not work and have no inheritance. Their only form of work is to slaughter oxen for the atonement of sins. They stay in the holy of holies and sit in the gap between God and man.

Your pastor is not a Levite as he works, has properties, cars etc. Check Ephessians 4:11: I gave some to be Pastors, Apostles, Teachers, Evangelists, Prophets. None were mentioned to be "Levites". You know why? Because, God has already sent His son (Jesus) to die for our sins, so needless to have the Levites who kill oxen to atone for our sins, Jesus has done that, hence, it is stated that Christ is the end of the law (Romans 10:4).

Surprisingly, tithes were not solely for Levites, they're for the following; Deuteronomy 14: 22-29:

1. For you and your household.

2. For strong drink (alchohol and whatsoever you desire.

3. The widows.

4. The fatherless.

5. The Levites (you are only asked to remember them as they have no inheritance, not to give them all of your tithe).
Before you bring Malachi 3:10, kindly study the entire chapter 3 to understand what that passage entails. The bible was encouraging the Israelites to come back to Him and start offering a portion of their thites to the Levites who had no food to eat as evident when He said; so there will be food in my house. God does not eat our food, the food was meant for the Levites who do not work.

Please, note that, I have attached biblical backings to my expository. This is to say, I am not against any dogma, or belief system any Christian has adopted as clearly, there is freedom of worship. Meaning, you can worship as you deem fit.

But you need to understand something. Most of the things you listed started as mere gimmicks to encourage good behaviour. Overzealous misguided Church goers later turned the gimmicks to (man-made) scriptures.
