Rising suicide rates: Adetutu Adedokun's death Adeze Ojukwu The recent plunging of Adetutu Adedokun into the Lagos Lagoon, is sad and shocking. This unfortunate incident is another strong indication of rising cases of depression and suicide in Nigeria. The deceased, an unarmed combat instructor, at the Department of State Services, according to Channels Television, reportedly had a hot discussion, with her "fiancé before alighting from the cab and jumping into the lagoon." The demise of this young woman, who is reportedly in her 30s, is really distressful, underscoring the need to increase psycho-social and medical services to vulnerable persons. Governments at all levels, relevant agencies, media, NGOs and stakeholders should integrate public health education, particularly mental health in schools, hospitals and institutions. Sadly the current economic and social crises ravaging the country, are linked to the spate of depression, addictions and suicidal tendencies. This sad development, which is more prevalent among youths, should be addresses with seriousness and urgency. https://twitter.com/OjukwuAdeze/status/1591138601387315200?s=20&t=XzQgVAbJUd-P4M2VCHeong
