Join The DSS Or Continue As A Bank Worker? by Inali: 3:51pm On Nov 17, 2022
Hi everyone. My friend is in a bit of a dilemma now and needs opinions before he can make his decision on whether to travel to the North for his training or not.

My friend works with a well know bank as a full staff, but he recently got drafted into the DSS(this should be a great news right?). The reason why he is having a cold feet is because of the qualifications his inlaw asked him to provide for the processing of the job. His inlaw who happens to be a DSS staff asked my friend to bring his OND certificate and WAEC, whereas this my friend has HND certificate so he can work it for him as one of his state slots.

His fear is that his cadre in the DSS might be limited due to the certificate they requested for for the DSS draft.

He has his inlaw some questions but the in law got angry cos of his questions instead of explaining things to my friend so he can make his decision better.

What he needs help for are:
- Since OND was used to process this DSS slot, what are the limitations regarding this certification used?
- An idea of the salary of one that uses an OND to enter.
- Is it still advisable for him to resign from the bank despite entering the DSS with an OND?
- What are the projections of him moving up with ladder so he can use his HND qualification.

Pls, I will appreciate if your inputs aren't just limited to this questions I asked. Kindly share info that will seem helpful too.

Mods, pls help move to FP cos he has just today and tomorrow to make up his mind.

He should ditch the bank job for the DSS offer, because a federal job comes with job security, pension and upward progression and the pay is nice. I really don't know if it comes with HMO. Also, he's lucky to have such opportunity.

I made my comment based on the facts you listed. He's a bank staff with HND and you'd agree with me that he's not earning enough and there's no job security. Also, he's got a HND and he should cling on the opportunity given to him now, even though he's gonna enter with a lower educational level, which equals less pay compared to BSc. and HND.

However, he should focus on his goal and endure with the OND grade because he's still gonna be able to tender his HND degree sooner or later during promotion.

Cheers!

He should ask God for directions to pick the right choice.... though the DSS job looks more juicy on the long run

DSS option Is a better choice. Bank job has no job security. If you have Masters but used OND for the DSS It would have been different but the truth is that there I really no difference between OND and HND so go for the DSS .

Generally, death can come at anytime but safety Is of the Lord. If its prospects that Is your concern DSS is more like it
