ColdHubs Limited, founded by Nnaemeka Ikegwuonu has won The Curt Bergfors Food Planet Prize 2022.

ColdHubs was selected from a pool of high-potential projects from around the world that are striving to address tough environmental problems ranging from reducing human and environmental exposure to hazardous chemicals to decarbonizing the global shipping industry.

ColdHubs, founded in 2015, was born out of a need to address the problem of post-harvest losses in fruits, vegetables and other perishable foods in Nigeria, West Africa.

ColdHubs provides solar-powered cold storage for small scale farmers and markets.

The innovation is a “plug and play” modular, solar-powered walk-in cold room, for 24/7 off-grid storage and preservation of perishable foods.

The ColdHubs solar-powered cold rooms has been installed in major food production and consumption centers (markets and farms) in at least Twenty-Eight (28) States in Nigeria.

The Curt Bergfors Food Planet Prize is the largest monetary award in the global food arena. It rewards innovative solutions that can help us shift to sustainable food systems within a ten-year timeframe.

The Prize  is the Curt Bergfors Foundation’s primary tool to encourage agents of change and promote game-changing initiatives.
