Police: Medical Report Is Compulsory For Tinted Cars In Nigeria. Is This True? by Contango(m): 7:16pm On Nov 20, 2022
Today, Sunday 20/11/2022, My friend was driving along Benin-Ore road to Benin from Lagos where a police man detained him for quite some time for having his car glasses tinted.

He recalled, that TheGuardian on the 20th of March 2022 had published that the police were only to demand for Vehicle License, Driver’s License and Certificates of Insurance and that drivers should report officer crossing the line. There was no mention of medical report or tinted permit for those whose cars were tinted as part of the documents that should be presented to officers on patrol.

He tried to argue his case that the car was bought January this year (2022) after the ban on tinted cars was lifted and he didn’t see the need to remove the ones that were on the vehicle when he purchased it.

The Police officer threatened to destroy the tint saying that the lift on the ban was for vehicles whose tint were factory fitted and not otherwise, and that they were ordered to destroy any tint on cars that were not factory fitted except on medical grounds.

Based on this new claim, We are now confused on the issue of tinted vehicle glasses and We’d like the Nigerian Police to make an unambiguous clarification of this issue again. Is it a crime to redress our vehicle glasses with cellophane vehicle tint?

If it is, then I think the issue should be re-addressed again. If not, then this has been a Clear case of harassment by this officer either on purpose or by his poor understanding of his job description and therefore appropriate measures would need to be taken to prevent such from re-occurring again in future.

My friend was able to record the event with a secret camera planted on his face cap. I’ll suggest that Nigerians invest in high quality spy cameras.

Attached is a link to the video and the photo of the officer.

How is the policeman right? It is people like you empowering these criminals in uniform. The news that was published said they are to only ask for vehicle registration, license and insurance. Nothing more!!! Oya show us where police said artificial tint is not allowed. The police were told to stop harassing people whether factory tint or self tint. Period

That was how once policeman tore my tint around Okene. God save him I didn’t have video

Well,I know it has been like that for long as far as 2010...If your glass is self tinted, there must be a permit from the police with medical report.

Yes the policeman was right...if your vehicle is factory tinted you don't need a permit ...but if you use a cellophane without permit and medical report you are prone to been harass by the police best advice is to remove it because tinted permit is no longer issue

And for those that has medical report and permit....make sure your medical report date is issued b4 permit....i.e don't have ur permit in January nd medical report in February

So what if I buy a car this November and I have medical complications with sunlight, does that mean I can’t tint my glass with a valid medical report?

Stop misinforming ppl.
IG said since they(Police) have stopped issuing tint permits, what you owe d policeman on the road is that he will search your person/occupants and search your car.
Then vehicle licence, insurance and drivers licence.
Anything other than that, report to PCRU

You mean you will tint your glass and won't be asked for permit...You can go to the nearest police station for clarification...What of if IG says he was misquoted.
Re: Police: Medical Report Is Compulsory For Tinted Cars In Nigeria. Is This True? by Abbeyb1ack: 5:29pm On Nov 25, 2022
You can't as long as tint permit is still been suspended across the country
Unless the car comes with a factory tinted glass...you can drive without a permit or medical report

But If the car comes with all dis black-nylon tint, just remove it to avoid harassment

There will always be need for aftermarket tint.
Ppl like me always need to drive with sunshades in bright sunlight.
I don't like tinted cars cos a security agent once explained to me that d disadvantage is bad guys could hijack you and they will be opening all gates including your home gate for them cos it will assumed its you in the car.
Now,that tinted car does d similar work my sunshade does,so some will opt for it.
I stand with the last official statement sha, until proven otherwise
