However, Atiku Abubakar, the former two term vice president of Nigeria, is taking a 6th shot at the presidency. Having previously lost at the primaries to Moshood Abiola 1993(sdp), Goodluck Jonathan 2011(pdp) and Muhammadu Buhari 2015(apc). He also came 3rd(ac) in 2007 and 2nd(pdp) in 2019 general elections.

While we may easily know that he has 28 children from about 5 or 6 wives, it seems that nobody was aware that H.E. Atiku Abubakar was in 1998, elected as the governor of Adamawa state before being picked as the vice presidential candidate in 1999 elections.

A university graduate will be addressed as a university graduate despite passing through primary school and secondary school. A former Vice President will mostly be remembered nationally as s Vice President rather than governor.

Even though Atiku was elected as a Governor, he wasn’t sworn in. Instead, a Military administrator was appointed instead. While the administrator went on to handover (resigned) as a new elected governor came in 1999, Atiku went on to be Vice President. So Atiku couldn’t have been remembered as Governor of Adamawa.

Because he was never sworn in as Governor, instead as a Vice President.

He won the Adamawa governorship election in 1999 but was convinced by OBJ to become his VP and Buni Haruna became the governor.

You become a Governor the day you are sworn in and not the day you won the election. Though Atiku was elected Governor of Adamawa state in 1998, he was never sworn in because he relinquished the position of Governor elect to become vice president. So legally speaking, Atiku can not be referred to as former Governor.

he was not sworn in , that means constitutionally he was never a governor.
