This is actually a really good question. I find a lot of young people don't have a framework for determining what career path to choose.

First things first, you need to define who you are and where you want to go. To do this, some assessment is critical:

1. Assess Yourself:
a. Who are you?: This question embodies your pain, your aspirations, your dreams, and your reality. It defines what you stand for and how you want to engage with the world.

b. What are your values?: What won't you compromise?
What would you feel unhappy giving up?: Why are they important to you?
What are your strengths?: What comes easy to you where others struggle? What seems obvious to you when others can't seem to understand? What can you do better than most people you know? These are pointers to your strengths.

c. What are you passionate about?: What makes you angry? What problems do you wish you could solve? What makes you lose sleep at night? What wakes you up in the morning? What would you enjoy doing even if you don't get paid?

d. What are your weaknesses?: What do you struggle with no matter how much you try? What do you wish you could be better at but can't seem to be making much progress on?

e. What foundational knowledge do you have?: What did you study? What extra-curricular skills have you acquired? Have you gotten any certifications? What courses have you attended and what do you know how to do as a result? What kind of jobs do you find attractive?

2. Assess The Market:
What roles are currently in demand within the industry you are interested in?
What does compensation look like for those roles?
How much growth is possible for the roles you are interested in?
Do these roles align with your strengths, skills, and interests?

3. Assess The Future:
What would your sector of interest look like in 5-10 years?
Would the roles you are interested in exist then? If not, what roles would the ones you are interested in evolve into?
What skills would be required to remain relevant in the space?

Take some time to answer these questions very carefully so you can be intentional about your career.
