ASUU Receives Full Salaries For November And Arrears Withheld by Nelson7474(m): 9:54pm On Nov 30, 2022
Lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities have received full salaries for the month of November 2022, The PUNCH can confirm.

Our correspondent also gathered that the eight month arrears remained withheld by the Federal Government.

A senior member of the union at the Bayero University Kano made this known in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Wednesday.

Some of our members have started receiving salaries and I can confirm to you that we received our full salaries for the month of November. However, the arrears are still withheld.”

The PUNCH reports that the Federal Government refused to pay the striking lecturers for the eight months which the union embarked on strike.

The lecturers, in October 2022 were also paid pro-rata (half-pay) according to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige.

The PUNCH had exclusively gathered that the lecturers were paid only 18 working days in the month of October a senior member of ASUU who spoke to our correspondent under strict confidence noted.

Speaking with our correspondent, he said, “We were only paid for the days after the strike. I received half salary. Other members are angry right now, they are blaming the NEC for calling off the strike.”

Lecturers across the country have been protesting against this decision by the Federal Government.

The PUNCH also reported how ASUU called off its eight-month-old strike on October 14, 2022. Lecturers were encouraged to resume back to work by the union on that same day.

The National Executive Council of the union is expected to hold a crucial meeting in the coming days over the withheld salaries.

I don't understand.

You actually expect government to encourage ASUU to strike by paying them ?

The govt paid the workers for November as they did for other civil servants because they worked for the month. Simple!

No
Am just curious to know what will happen to the money cause I usually think every month during salary payments, there're some fraction of money brought out to be paid that's why I asked.

They shouldn't have gone on the last strike,; since the one before it yielded no results! You can't keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. At the least (for a change), they would have waited for Buhari's regime to end.

That's what the government will continue to do till they leave office or hand over. Same playbook they're using for Nnamdi kanu and Dasuki .

Delay tactics till its over

Please dear everyone, please forgive me for posting this, if I can help myself I won't be begging. I am seeking assistance from well meaning Nigerians to help save my life. Please sirs and ma's, my name is Faith , am a 26 years old single mom of 1. My son is just 2 years old. I used to be a hairdresser before my present predicament. In August of 2021 I fell very sick and was rush to the hospital by my neighbour. Doctor said that I will have to be admitted because by the time that they have prescribed several drugs for me, my hands and both of my legs has developed rashes and started to swell up. The swelling got worst and more severe as time went by, eventually leading to multiple skin ulcers. Preliminary results shows that I was diagnosed with blood infection. I also urgently require prolonged sore Management with Vacuum Assisted Closure Device and skin graft to help regain my normal life again but unfortunately I can't treat myself because I don't have enough on me. Doctor said the procedure will require 1.3million Naira to give me my life back and so far I've been able to raise only 300 thousand with the help of my friends and some kind hearted well wishers who have taken pity for me in the past few months. Pleas sirs and ma's, am an orphan both my parents are late. I have been trying every possible best to raise the remainder to no avail. I don't have any property to sell again and I cannot work in this my condition pls I beg of you, I can't even look after my 2 years old son, that's why am pleading with any well meaning person pls

Don't even send a penny to this fraudsters

good

no work no pay is in our constitution. their 8months salary should be held firmly by FG, if they strike again, seize more salaries till the strike is over.

Academia now have the option of going on strike with accompany hunger strike in an attempt to pressure the government to pay the backlogs of arrears ..

OR

Continue to work and receive full payments with accompanying relief from hunger , while subtly reminding the FGN of their salary arrears..

To strike or not to strike in demand for the arrears..the choices are yours.
