The New Testament does not specifically describe the instrument
upon which Christ died, though Acts 5:30; 10:39; and 13:28-29
refer to it as a "tree." The Greek word xulon, translated "tree" in
these verses, can mean a stick, club, tree, stake, or other wooden
articles.
The shocking revelation is that the "Christian" use of the cross did
not begin until the time of Constantine, three centuries after Christ
Archaeologists have not found any Christian use of the symbol
before that time. According to one writer (W. E. Vine, Expository
Dictionary of New Testament Words, article "Cross"wink, the cross
as a "Christian" symbol was taken directly from the pagans.
The Romans, the ones who according to the Bible crucified Christ,
are known to have used instruments of various shapes. Some
were simply upright timbers, others had crosspieces attached
either at the top or just a little below the top. The word "cross"
in...
But today the most important and sacred symbol of mainstream
"Christianity" (made up of Catholics, Protestants, and other Sunday-
keeping churches) is the cross. It is used on Bibles and on church
signs, altars, and rooftops. The floor plans …
So I ask you noise-makers, church-goers, church bench-warmers,
shouting everywhere as if they are being bitten by some invisible
holy spirit, I ask again:
The Cross: A Christian Banner or Pagan Relic?
Is the Symbol of the Cross Idolatry?
Was Jesus Crucified on a Cross or Stake (Matthew 27:35)?
Why did the Origin of the Christian Cross emanate three centuries
after Christ?
Why? Why?

Ask Jesus' real disciples (Jehovah's Witnesses) they will tell you WHY?
Jesus was executed on a stake just as criminals back then were executed but along the line paganism was introduced after the death of his Jewish disciples who knew the truth.
Jesus himself foretold this in an illustration:

“The Kingdom of the heavens may be likened to a man who sowed fine seed in his field. While men were sleeping, his enemy came and oversowed weeds in among the wheat and left. When the stalk sprouted and produced fruit, then the weeds also appeared. Matthew 13:24-26

The highlighted "while men were sleeping" indicates that after his disciples died {John 11:11-14} falsehood was introduced into Christianity that's when those who are supposed to be CAUTIOUS and HARMLESS {Matthew 10:16} became killers in the name of religion! John 8:44

But Jesus Christ returned a century ago and he has restructured his group, today his disciples now bear another group name JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES {Isaiah 65:15} if you read all the words of Jesus carefully regarding how people in general will treat his disciples you will be surprised that that's exactly how Jehovah's Witnesses are being treated today! Matthew 10:22-25
May you have PEACE! smiley

This is how criminals in Rome were executed back then:

The Churches of Christendom fought really hard to keep this secret away from people but the lovers of truth preserved it for their brothers: Truth Seekers! John 8:32

Yes I m a Christian. The problem of you guys who are opposed to Christianity is that you lack the understanding of what we believed as adherents of the Christian faith. Symbols are irrelevant, it's the redemptive assignment that Christ came for that is the fulcrum of the Christian faith. Whether Jesus died on a stake, or cross or stone or on the bed is not the issue. The physical cross didn't provide salvation. It's all about Christ

So, my brother, tell them the name of the instrument on which Jesus was crucified!
You will see them coming to insist it's a cross! SMH!
