A pressing issue here, anytime I come on nairaland and there is news about the war going and the uk is mentioned people will start insulting them or when some Nigerians are making plans to travel to the UK countries some naira landers always lambast the UK saying it a poor country, too much tax and it doesn't encourage Iaving.

Well, in my own opinion I think the UK is a great country the only issue here is that it a small country, I don't know why they didn't expand and claim land like Russia, US and Canada, instead of forming colonies. The UK is the 6th country with the highest Gdp and they are approximately more than 60 billionaires(bristish asian and white British) but why do most nairalander hate UK?
I have family relative(ilitrate)who went there and in 6 month time started building house in Nigeria. So how is the UK a poor country?

Get it right with your UK travelling plans and you wouldn't go through some unnecessary stuffs some are struggling with.

There are many sectors understaffed and are in need of people who get to work in a conducive environment with no stress.

A lot of people look at the UK through the lens of Nigeria. If you compare the UK to other developed nations or even middle-income countries, you would see it's not a great place. The salaries are atrociously low with very high taxes and a very high cost of living then they tell you theres free healthcare and free education as if the UK is the only country in the world offering these things. I am all for Japa but I will rather stay in Nigeria than move to the UK, to be honest.

Even a British citizenship if acquired doesn't give much benefits. You will still need a work visa as a UK citizen to work in the USA, you will still need to do Canada express entry to get an LMIA as a British citizen to work in Canada same as Australia so whats the use? Those are the places you can actually earn a lot of money as a professional and its still not easy to go after being a British citizen.

The rush to UK by Nigerians is also the same with Angolans with Portugal.

Portugal colonized Angola reason why they see it like our own UK.
At the Angola airport, before a flight will depart any other countries, 5 planes have taken up to Lisbon (Portugal capital ).
It all boils down to those countries being our formal colonial masters and ability to easily adjust to their country without language barriers but the 2 countries are going down and don’t pull much power unlike before.

They hate UK simply becoz UK immigration is much tough compared to the likes of US & Canada

UK visa is the easiest to get at the moment. Just gain admission and pay fees and your visa is given to you. Even poorer EU countries have a much more difficult process than the UK.

UK is the easiest of the 3 countries you mentioned.

On the issue of hate, I think it is more of misinformation, right from the planning stage. I will personally encourage Nigerians to go the route of work visa rather than the study route unless that UK postgraduate studies would give you an edge in the UK labour market.

For example, If you can get a UK Children residential support worker job, it will worth whatever it did cost you to get to the UK.

And the funny thing is their own people are running. A lot of UK professionals are leaving the UK due to abysmal low wages. Their doctors leave to Australia likewise their nurses. Their teachers are moving to Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and co that's why they now want to recruit teachers from here. Even David Cameron their ex prime minister left his teaching job at the UK to go teach in the UAE. People view UK from a Nigerian lens. If they could try looking at it with the lens of other countries, they would hate the country entirely.

You see here you choose a simpler route on paper aka being a student, then when they get here things are tough

1 limited working hours

2 no public funds

total different if one comes via normal working permit

its hard to balance the two if your family is not sending you money to cover some expense

student visa restrict your working hours

Your course eats most of your time, to maintain the student visa Uni attendance should be above 80%

Presently, Nigerians say the US embassy visa refusal rate is almost 90%. In Canada, before Covid, it was 8 in 10 who got denied. Meanwhile, from that period till date, almost 80K Nigerians have been issued UK visas of all sorts, including dependant visas.

The stat negates your claim. Numbers don't lie. Any Ada, Bumbi or Ekaette can get a UK visa issued within the stipulated time. The same applies to admissions. I recall the application process I made to a top school in Ireland, finished the process by 11pm and got my admission letter by 8am the following day. The one in England said the decision would take one month only for them to nack me admission letter within two weeks.

The same also applies to getting a job in the US or Canada from Nigeria. In the US, the firm has to apply for H1B visa - a lottery aka tumbo-tumbo process. In Canada, the firm has to do an LMIA before employing you over thousands of PRs and citizens in Canada. Those applications take time and money to process. Getting a visa to the US or Canada from Nigeria is not easy. Additionally, the same applies to tourist visa.
