The fuel for this comes with the Athletes themselves in my opinion. I read Pele Biography and he very well let people know that he is the Best that ever played the game ( My Life and the Beautiful Game) Muhammad Ali said as much.

You are very correct. The debates and comparison will always be there. I guess that's why neither of Messi and Ronaldo has announced his retirement from football. Probably each still believes the other is still holding a record he has to break.

Exactly. It is human nature I think and goaded on by the baying crowds appluading the Gladiators.

Stats are rolled out, Stats are always been redefined and fine tune to make this or that Player the best that ever was.

It is not going to stop soon. As long as the Games are still being played and we all are still watching.

I will admit, the beautiful game have witnessed some unimaginable geniuses. I never watched Pele aside bits and pieces here and there but I watched Diego Armando Maradona, I watch Leonel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho De Lima and many many others.

In my opinion , they all play Football but in a different position. Comparing say, Diego Maradona with a Gary Lineker is a bit funny. For me, there are Great Goal Scorers and Great Play Makers. I don't mix them in my comparison if I must.

So, I find it a bit weird Comparing Messi with Ronaldo. Comparing the two is a great injustice to what they both bring the the Beautiful Game we all love.
