Who Are The Members of Cabal Who Choose Our Presidents? by SmartPolician: 10:54am On Dec 23, 2022
Over the years, many of us have heard fascinating stories of how a group of kingmakers cherry-picks who becomes Nigeria's president.

In short, a lot of names have been mentioned (which I won't bore you with) and stories have it that those men and women decide who becomes Nigeria's president. This means that what we Nigerians think doesn't matter. Some call them powers that be. and power brokers grin

Make no mistake about it, there's no cabal anywhere in Nigeria. Yes, you read that right!

In fact, sometimes, you see politicians say that only God gives power. Buddy, they are 100% right. This is why they become helpless and start doing a lot of silly things to please the people during election seasons. Nobody but YOU and I give them power, but unfortunately, they abuse it afterwards because the institutions are weak and manipulatable.

But why did I say there's no cabal anywhere?

Here's why.........

1. If cabals determine who wins the presidential elections, politicians won't be paying millions of naira on radio jingles, TV commercials, online ads, billboards and posters to promote their candidacy.

2. Do you know that politicians buy votes for as high as #10k per vote? Why do they bother doing all this if one cabal determines who rules Nigeria?

3. Why do politicians send thugs to disrupt elections, carry ballot boxes and stuff them if there's a cabal somewhere?

Admittedly, Nigeria has many influential people (such as past and current leaders, kings, religious leaders, businessmen and businesswomen, celebrities, etc.), so politicians vying for offices visit them to seek their support so they can influence their own people to vote for them.

I always say that biggest failing of democracy is that both enlightened folks and unenlightened voters have one vote each. This is why we need to educate our people to make informed political decisions because we all bear the brunt of bad political choices.

What's more, in Nigerian politics, presidential hopefuls depend on governors, senators, HoR members, etc to win votes in their various areas of influence. These influential and rich bigwigs are collectively called STRUCTURE.

Given the large population of unenlightened Nigerians, structure is effective in our politics today. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. In short, the vast majority of Nigerian voters (who happen to come from the north) don't have independent minds. So, we need to enlighten and empower our populace to whittle down the influence of this structure on our election because it does us more harm than good.

Furthermore, another challenge of democracy is that you need a lot of money to finance campaigns. Because most people cannot independently finance their campaigns, they run to this structure for support. In fact, part of what contributes to godfatherism in our politics today is that executing campaigns involves a lot of money.

As a result, some politicians ask for money from all manner of evil men and women in our society. Sadly, the wealthy financiers give them terms and conditions before investing in their candidacy. This is partly why bad leadership becomes a norm. Still, this is why we must learn to financially support our politicians to independently win elections.

To wrap this up, INEC and 93 million registered Nigerians will determine Nigeria's next president. No cabal, kingmakers or powers that be (or whatever you may choose to call it) determine who becomes the president of Nigeria.

In truth, what we need is to continuously push for the automation of our electoral process because technology promotes transparency and seamlessness.

Also, there should be harsh punishment for electoral offenses, including death penalty or shoot at sight for ballot box snatching. Yes, I don't have any apology for this. INEC staffers who register underage voters should be prosecuted and people caught buying votes should be slammed 20 years imprisonment.

Lest I forget, the incumbent president should allow the INEC chairman do his job - something he has already promised. This is a win for our democracy.

So, if everything goes as explained here, our politics will continuously attract the best of us, not the worst of us making laws for the best of us, which is now forcing many Nigerians to run away from their own country to foreign countries - a part of the world I call Cold Rooms. grin
