Anambra Deputy Governor Confronts Soldiers Over Roadblocks, Traffic Jam by Busy76: 4:34pm On Dec 25, 2022 |
The Deputy Governor of Anambra, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, confronted soldiers on Saturday for making roadblocks on some major roads in the state and making it hard for drivers to get around. Ibezim, who was in charge of traffic management across the entire state, said it was unacceptable for motorists to waste time and fuel stuck in traffic due to a military operation designed to create artificial bottlenecks. He argued that the security forces could carry out their duties without imposing an unnecessary burden on the public. Ibezim questioned whether or not the troops at the Stanel filling station and the Nnamdi Azikiwe University entrance would keep the discarded tyres and sandbags they had used to barricade the road at Amansea, close to the border with Enugu State on the one-lane motorway. “We must be sane in this country,” he told the soldiers. “I came here in the morning to warn you about this, but you are still blocking the traffic.” ” I pulled out as a director in the Ministry of Defense; this is not what the Army stands for. “Allow these people to move; you do not suffer taxpayers this way,” he remarked. Ibezim urged drivers and pedestrians to work with the state’s traffic management organisations for a more efficient transportation system. He thinks everyone should follow the rules and the public should have free access to the roadways. “At Amawbia bye pass, I saw heavy traffic, but when I alighted to find out what was going on, it happened that youth stood in the middle of the road, waving party flag while the traffic stood still. “I had to order him out to be attested; surprisingly, they said I was threatening to arrest an opposition party faithful, but we won’t succumb to such cheap blackmail; our roads must be free of all obstructions,” he stated. Height of incompetence! Hommie just seeking attention out of nothing! Do we need to tell the deputy governor that, with the height of insecurity in the region, such is demanded! This is what you get when you vote for incompetence. I am certain Soludo will not say such cos he is versatile, enlightened, and know how security issues are approached! My only problem with Soludo is selecting an incompetent clout chasing personality, as a deputy 1 Like |

They soldiers met a man that understands how things work, even within the army. They should go to Giwa and kafanchan LG in Kaduna state and Mount their useless roadblocks. People are been massacred every week there, and both the state and federal govt are doing nothing about the situation. 2 Likes |

I don't agree with you on this one. Soldiers blocking expressway to extort money from motorists while unknown gunmen do what they do on daily basis without being challenged by the same soldiers that ran away anytime they are confronted by the terrorists. CoronaVirusRelo: 7 Likes 1 Share |

Urheadmaster: So because some corrupt ones are extorting money, road blocks should be abolished even with the glaring security challenges? It would have been better and welcomed if the deputy governor had encouraged and enlightened them, on the need to be focused in their duties. It would have been better if the governor had brief discussion with them to know their challenges and how the state government can help. Not castigating the little effort they are putting-in 1 Like |

He is on point because when they mount road blocks and are collecting money, the sweetness of the naira would not let them know when unknown gunmen sneak up behind them unawares and end their lives. This is what the useless soludo should have done amongst many others like refuse, security etc to make life easier for citizens of the state, but he left his job and was writing essays against his perceived political opponent |

I feel sorry for the military. We need to give this people a break. There was no need for the deputy Governor to leave his office and start giving them a dressing down over whether they should be in charge of a road block or not. He was a Director in the Military...so? Why didn't he contact their commanding officer. The Army have said over the years that they would rather not be involved in this type of work, but when the government orders them to do the work in order to improve security, some people and even senior government officials who lack patience still go out to abuse them In my experience, army road blocks tend to move faster than those manned by police. A lot of the delay that happen is usually caused by motorists who refuse to queue in single file. I generally feel safer on roads where the army man road blocks. |

incandescentena: I agree with the deputy governor on this, have u ever been to the east b4? those stupid soldiers are criminals. the people of Anambra really commend him, how can u mount 3 road blocks within 2 kilometers. that's not security, that's extortion. tomorrow, if Anambra moves them out of there, they will come back and rob the same place so that they will be reinstated. bloody criminals. 1 Like 1 Share |

Waterysperm: You should not have glorified that nuisance with a reply. One day he will meet his waterloo at the expense of these roadblocks at any part of Nigeria he may be. Stupidity is when you support all trashes because you want to be a bigot or payrolled. Recently, I told a friend who demanded to know why I am against my state government despite being a beneficiary of its workings. I told him that the humanity in me and in you should not support a system that is faulty because it favours me or you more than others. |

CoronaVirusRelo: The permanent check points established by the corrupt soldiers have no security value, and you know it. No where in the world does a country's army turn on their own citizens, but because of tribal and religious differences some of these soldiers actually think and behave like they are fighting the local indigenes. These check points are so obvious that the real criminals have since established ways to avoid them, but the soldiers remain their to extort and harass innocent citizens. Would you tolerate 20 to 30 army check points choking the life out of Kano or Sokoto manned by southern officers who neither speak Hausa nor respect the local people? Why support evil ? 1 Like |
