Guyz, if you discover that your girl is graceful in looks but disgraceful in the kitchen, would it matter to you? Honest opinions pls,

I don't see it as a big deal, but most men do. In addition, most women take pride in their culinary skills and would be offended if you express ambivalence towards their efforts in the kitchen. In summary, most women like to cook, and so they want men who want women who can cook! wink

Sup Nairaland users, I need some advice.

I met this really kool girl and I fell in love with her but now she is telling me she can't cook.  shocked

Don't get me wrong, I am a decent guy, but I don't know what to make of this. All I ask is that my pan cakes, toast with scream cheese, sunny side-up eggs and freshly squeezed (by hand) orange juice be ready for me when I wake up in the morning. My home made pounded yam and egusi made from freshly picked leaves be at my table at noon. And when I come home from a long day of work, my three course dinner meal set in a presentable fashion on the table.  Hopefully, all of this can be done without poisoning me.

Even though she can't cook, I still love her. Would I be wrong in getting a second wife to make-up for her defects?

Note: I know all of you are thinking, "Why the hell is he even with her?", but like I said, I love her. So, for the time being, I am not willing to leave her. But I just don't know what to do. Clearly, something has to change, and I will not tolerate shotty meals. Not now, not ever!

An incredibly illogical consideration, since you can just hire a cook. Cook => food. Get it?

If she cant cook but can work wonders in bed than most women. i will consider her
Re: Does It Matter If She Can't Cook? by Jachoz(m): 10:00am On Jul 31, 2006
In summary, all the replies so far point to the fact that it matters if she doesn't know how to cook. Even those who claim that they would teach should know that if it doesn't matter, there would be no need to teach.

My own candid opinion is that it matters, better still if both know how to cook.

why should it matter if a woman cant cook?

i cant cook, i dont like the kitchen and i am happily committed and my man has no problem with that.

I guess u will have a change of opinion in 10-20 yrs time, becos there are some delicacies that are better handled by the governor (the wife) in the house especially when it concerns the minsiters (children) etc than even the 5-star hotels.

Remember this day, Jachoz has said it.

@Viena, Tnx. . .Enlightened men is damn right!
@Jachoz, well i do agree that u can say never say never, but in my years on this earth i've never had the urge 2 cook anything and i doubt even when i leave the earth that would change. Lets say am set in my ways and there are so many things that compliment my choice. If u say i wont get a man becos of the whole cooking issue? LOL sorry 2 burst that bubble but it has never been an issue with all the guys i have dated and yes that includes nigerian men grin grin

To prepare food has nothing to do with being enlightened or not.  To think of it, the so called illitrate once are usually expert in preparing delicious dishes while enlightened would add sugar in place of salt and vice va serwould.

We eat in order to live. In fact it is good that every member of the knows how to prepare at least one type meal or the other even if it is to boil just hot water. A family where this is none-existence is better imagined. I am not restricting my arguement to the wife alone mind you.

@Topic,

I can’t cook to save my life so it’s important that my madam knows her way around the kitchen. Else, what is the alternative? Will we be ordering pizza one night and going to our local Chippies the next?

Hmm . . . all you Naija girls that say cooking is not important remind me of all those brainy kids in school who always went into hiding to study, and then reappeared to play with us ‘olodos’. wink
