" _Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm_":- Dan 6 vs 3

It means to go beyond a certain limit that has been set for others.

The word “ *excel*” is translated as “ *super-abundance*” in some translations.
It is the same word used for life “ *more abundantly*” in John 10:10, “ *I am come that they might have life… more abundantly*”.

It could also mean to do something better than others, especially in your field or career. It could be to be better than others, especially your contemporaries.

For example, in *Daniel 1:20 And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm*.

Excellence is a spirit,so is mediocrity. Mediocre are usually under the spell of non-achievement.
This year ensure that you are not captured by the "spirit of thou shall not excel" like Reuben who was destined to excel but due to indiscipline he went and defiled his father's bed.

1). Shun mediocrity and embrace excellence.

1). Father help me to excel and deliver me from mediocrity in Jesus name.
