I know you’re an illiterate. You have everything to confirm the transaction yourself, but you’ve chosen to make a mockery of yourself.

I feel sorry for you.

An illiterate that's stirring up emotions, putting you on a defensive mode of trying to prove your claims. You are not smart!!

I had similar experience on the 4th of December 2017. I fell from top of Sanction in my former company (Vita Construction) @Lagos. We were doing painting on the erected Sanctions. I didnt use belts. I fractured my hand and leg. I used POP for 2 months. Na God save me oo. When people heard I fell from that height and didnt die, hospital full like say I be celebrity. The Indians who own the company settled my hospital bills. I still feel pains at my back till date. Na only God save me oo

I don't know if this is the right section to post this, if not, mod please take it to the right section.

My online brothers and sisters, help me thank God for preserving my life as I almost left this wicked world last Friday, 13th January, 2023. 13th January has become a day I will never forget in life. Since I graduated from the university, I am yet to get a job that is well-deserving of my status. I'm not talking about big jobs with heavy remuneration (not as though I won't grab it if I see one of such) but just something to earn a living from. The last salaried job I did was a contract job which lasted only 6 months. Since then, despite my efforts, applying to every nook and cranny to land a job, I have been unlucky. However, I still keep hope alive.

However, it makes me think Nigeria really need to redefine and re-axamine the value of education in the country and what it stands for. Does it stand for nation building or for frustration? That is something for another day BTW.

Back to the topic, so with a woman and two kids to take care of, I had to go do labourer job at a construction site to earn something. That Friday was my second day in the place. I never thought it would end in disaster but I thank God that even after falling from such a distance, I didn't die, neither the mason man that was on the scaffold.

The thing is that I was carrying mortar and blocks to the mason, climbing using ladder. You know this local scaffold builders use. That thing they nailed together as V 'abi' L, place them on the wall and put planks on top to stand on. I don't know what happened that the blocks put at one end to weigh its balance failed while I was already up there. Long story short, everything collapsed and that was how we landed on the ground from the finishing end of the building. It should be a distance of 12 feet or more.

What worsened the case was the mason. As the scaffold collapsed, he immediately and unconsciously grabbed the newly laid blocks in safety attempt, not remembering he just laid those blocks. You know that kind thing. Landing on ground, that was how those blocks came upon us in their number like some sort of blast. To top it all, I didn't earn a penny that day. The man is even blaming us for the collapse.

I sustained injuries but my waist especially seems to have dislocated as a result of hitting it on ground while landin. I have been feeling sharp pains from the inside since then.

Since that Friday, I have been down physically and psychologically. As I am reflecting on it today, I decided to write it down.

No matter how it has affected me, physically, psychologically, economically and health-wise, I still thank God for sparing my life and I want you to join me in thanking him.

Thank you for reading also.

Op can you add your account details to your write up

I pray God locate you

I wish you good luck in future.
I wish I can be of more help, but I dey under code for here. at least I help when I can in real life.

Please be very careful at this work or any work. Even in a developed country, work is not accident proof. In a developed country, they give you some training, remember training is an everyday thing, but if you have an accident, they send you to the hospital, one of the first things they do after treating your immediate injury is to check your system for any drugs, especially like last 24hrs type of drugs including alcohol intake; if they detect it, they would treat you but might not pay you while you recover or after recovery.

Anyways, many jobs are risky. As an engineer, you can loose your hand/ finger/ toes, you can die in a chemical room that had a small leak, you can be in a room and the machine explode, you might fall from heights like you did, you can drown, you can have a costly mistake like an engineer, a doctor, a veterinary, etc; is a lot of variables on how an accident might occur. Even a cashier is at risk of arthritis due to too much typing, too much screen viewing, a mistake due to incoherence might be costly, armed robbers, etc . To top it off, this is Nigeria where workers safety is based on prerogative. In America, workers safety guideline is based on OSHA.

Anyway, good luck. One good thing about this experience, is the technique it teaches you. Before you get on an uncontrolled height, check for some stability of the ladder or scaffold; if okay, try not to climb with many distractions that can hinder your movement or occupy your grip, like phone in hand, like carrying heavy tools and many of them at the same time, or not being attentive to slip hazard. You have to think of your safety, but also the safety of others, because if you were climbing up with many tools, and some unattentive or aloof person was walking underneath, your tools could drop down and hurt the.person or material underneath. So think of you and others. The ability to navigate the nuances of the job is called technique to me. The way you use your screw driver or channel locks or spanner, in an open space or in a tight space.

Anyway, I thank God for your safety, and I wish you the best in future.

I feel like crying. I might be far younger than you, but I've been in your shoes. Although I didn't fall from a distance, I dislocated my leg while carry a white bucket of mixed concrete to lay a foundation. I even injured my hip while trying to grab a pillar reinforcement that was just supported with blocks. The most painful aspect of this labour job is you will spend more than half of your daily income on daily food and drugs.
God will make way for you bro
