FG quietly approves ₦‎185 per litre as petrol pump price
By Dennis Erezi

The Federal Government has quietly approved ₦185 as the new petrol pump price per litre.

A source told The Guardian that the approved pump price was communicated to major marketers in a memo early Friday.

Our correspondent gathered that fuel stations in Lagos have started adjusting their pump price to the approved ₦185 per litre.

The newly approved price comes weeks after there had been nationwide petrol scarcity, leading to long queues in fuel stations since late November 2022.

Although the official pump price was ₦165 per litre many fuel stations sold fuel above ₦200 per litre in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.

The Guardian reported last November that major petrol marketers adjusted fuel prices to meet their operating expenses

Well, subsidy just have to go.Hence the increase in the the cost price of petrol. However, none of the FG NNPC, DPR or IPMAN have an accurate statistics of the average daily consumption of petrol.

Yet subsidy is being fraudulently paid and now these crooks are still increasing the price of an elusive petrol with no substantial increase in salaries.

1. This shows the subsidy being paid canmot cover the losses being made to keep fuel cheap

2. Time subsidy was removed totally.

3. Best to pay the market price at the pump( not the 185 naira goverment is deceiving themselves with) instead of paying the price at world bank hq

grin

Anyone criticising subsidy removal must have voted for 40 naira per liter in 2015

This ought to have be gone since 2012-14 but being senseless and sheer wicked, you lots opposed it with glee calling it a fraud. Now the government have been perpetuating the same scam, fraud and corruption because they have mummified zombies support base. Both you and the government many of you lots supported in the past 7 years ought to be jailed for life.

True, but we should also jail all those who supported subsidy in all the previous goverments. And most Nigerians

Because let us be honest, all goverments keep subsidy because Nigerians want subsidy. That is why GEJ kept it , why Buhari kept it and why all their predecessor kept it. Even Abacha .

But thankfully the three main candidates have seen the light. Whoever wins, subsidy is gone

I just hope people can see clearly how subsidy has wrecked our economy and our refining capacity.

Buhari should have removed the thing on June 1 2015.

Then President Jonathan wanted to implement 2 major economic policies. One is the sovereign wealth fund( SWF) which the then APC governors led by Ameachi, Oshiomole, El Rufai opposed.

Second it the issue of subsidy which the economic think tank of his then government led by NOI and Sanusi Lamidp Sanusi rightly advised should be discarded.

However, the APC being filled with wicked and devillish souls vehemently opposed it with the "save and occupy Nigeria groups." Thereby playing politics for a sensitive national issues they have zilch knowledge of their working.

FG should remember to give an equivalent of subsidy to those village folks without roads and electricty.

The hypocritical lots and SM mob who daily enjoy both subsidies on petrol and electricity are the loudest when reminded that they are the rats that ate the funds meant to support and help their kith and kin in their villages.

Before subsidy is eventually phased out and after it is phased out, our villagers without electricity and roads must be compensated for the decades of picking up the bill of the social and environmental costs of the subsidy enjoyed by a fraction of their compatriots.

It would have been good if bubu had removed subsidy totally in 2015.

Which Buhari? The sanctimonious hypocrite that ran the most fraudulent and scandalous govt ever seen in Nigeria. Buhari’s record of subsidy is horrible and the world would simply shudder in horror the day his govt corruption will be unearthed.

"...Subsidy gulps N150 billion every month.” N150 billion is still less than the N200 billion monthly transport bonus bill the regime will pay to 400 million Nigerians. In other words, Nigeria will spend more money on transport bonus to an amorphous, unidentifiable, and probably cooked-up 40 million poor Nigerians than the subsidies it says it pays on petroleum subsidies, which it says are too expensive to be sustainable. That makes absolutely no sense.

The last time the Buhari regime increased fuel prices last year, it said it had completely done away with fuel subsidies and had left the price of petrol to the vagaries of demand and supply. Now, the regime’s honchos say again that the subsidy they said they’d completely removed, for which there was no allocation in the 2021 budget, must be removed again! ....." https://gazettengr.com/farooq-kperogi-same-old-cruel-lies-to-justify-fuel-price-hike/

Oga, let's be honest here...both GEJ, Buhari and all their past leaders goofed on subsidy.

You can stop defending GEJ now, and all the Buharinistas can stop defending Buhari now.

For 50 years, we have had leaders who were too scared to take a firm decision on subsides. Incluiding your GEJ and their Buhari. If any one of them had been strong enough to take the bull by the horns, by now we would have been free of the subsidy burden.

But GEJ, and his successor Buhari were weak.

I am tired of hearing what Nigerian leaders could have done....it is time they started doing things. Like this current leadership....if Buhari had removed subsidy on June 1 2015, by now we would have had more refinereis in the pipeline, and we won't have been wasting billions on subsidizing fuel for the whole of West Africa. Instead he emulated all his predecessors, and now we are throwing away another possible 4 trillion if not more this year on subsidy...because we have and have had leaders who cannot effing grow a pair of balls.

Nigerian leaders better grow a spine sometimes. If GEJ had grown a spine, history would have been fair to him. Same for bubu...and if Gowon had not made the mistake to bring in subsides in 1973, maybe by now we would have been exporting crude to almost every African country.

Judge leaders on what they did, not on what they coulda done.

So dat nigerians can buy fuel at 800 a litre.
Check kerosene 800, diesel 820, gas 800. U think when subsidy goes fuel won't sell for 800.

Yes, because that is the only way we can stop losing money on smuggling, get domestic refining back up in this country, stop throwing free money at subsidy cabals year in and year out, and reduce our loan burden a lot.

Either we pay for fuel at the market price at the pump, or we pay for it at World Bank HQ.

Maybe you enjoy seeing your money used to feed subsidy cabals, and to subsidise fuel for most of the West African region. I don't.

Re: FG Queity Approves 185 Naira As Petrol Pump Price by nedu666: 4:56pm On Jan 19, 2023
The problem is not subsidy but corruption. How can a country not know how many litres it consumes. Why is no refinery working. B4 removing subsidy, ensure there is 24/7 light because many homes and businesses depend on fuel. Failure to do so means mass unprecedented unemployment. Mass loss of purchasing power which leads to less business and subsequently more unemployment and lower tax collections
Second, ensure mass bus transit. Give each state 2000 long coaster bus. Otherwise prepare to spend 70% of ur income on transport

Who exactly is running his business at a loss? I hope u are not referring to nnpc and oil coys. In a country with so much secrecy and corruption, how do you know nnpc is telling the truth. Lets face facts if subsidy goes, this country will be a living hell for 90% of nigerians. Is it on 30k and below wage u want the citizens to survive. Nigerians are already over cutting their coats, any further cuts will impact massively on every individual and businesses in the country

Subsidy is what is fuelling the corruption.

Plus, how can you have 24 hour light when 40% of people do not pay their bills, and the bills themselves are under price controls that prevent them from making profit.

You complain of mass unemployment...meanwhile keeping subsidy = more debt, more loss of income, more loss of investment.

If you love subsidy, then stop complaining about the debt you have. As for me, I am tired of our debt.

YeS, nnpc, that reported lossed for over 20 years.

At the end, if we keep subsidy, yes things will be enjoyable...but we would be taking money from our tomorrow to pay for our today...and the time will come when there would be a reckoning.
