I can relate. I've experienced worse with this Gen Z people. You'll call a candidate who is looking for job and the candidate's phone will be on standby DND. One gave me an excuse that she doesn't like calls. She then went on to say that the recruiter is supposed to text her instead of calling. The one that rejected Salary of 80k because no staff bus and the location is Costain to Marina. Funnily enough, the candidate is not working but according to her, she's looking for a job. They want to earn big whilst doing nothing. Invite them for physical interview and they'll say "can't it be virtual?"

Wo make them rest abeg

I was asked to refer someone for a job in a company in the South East.

I shared this in my network and received a few CVs which I sent to the organization.

I had forgotten about this until a friend followed up with me about her sister's application. I inquired from the Hiring Manager and learned that this candidate was made an entry-level offer of a little over 90k by the company but she rejected the offer. Reason? The salary was too small, she wanted to be paid triple that amount.

Before then, her only work experience was about 15 months in a small provision store as a Sales Associate/Cashier on a salary that was well below 20k.

She didn't have the required experience but she was chosen for her positive attitude and potential to learn.

Recounting how she started her career from little beginnings, my friend was livid. She had become tired of supporting her sister financially and couldn't understand why she will turn down the opportunity and choose to continue leeching on her financially.

After her sister threatened to cut her financial support, the candidate had a change of heart and decided to take the job. But opportunities don't wait, another candidate had been offered the job.

Dear Young Professional,

It's okay to place yourself highly but are you highly skilled for the pay you want? Don't get me wrong, money is very good but there is a place of learning and a place of earning. We learn to earn. If the million-dollar job you want hasn't come, hold the 90k one while learning and developing yourself into the million-dollar talent that you aspire to become.

Companies pay for value, use that small money to make yourself a valuable talent and watch doors will open for you.

Selah!
Fake fake story. There is no way somebody earning about 20k as a sales girl in a small provision store will reject an offer of about 90k in a big organization. The hustler in question is even a lady! Tell me another story!

This story is unrealistic, how can someone who never earn past 20k reject a job offer of 90k plus, only because she is expecting a salary of 270k,

Not true to me Op.

90k plus salary is an upgrade to 20k salary, unless she knows that someone previously in that position was paid 270k

You also didn't tell us if the salary will be increased at a certain time maybe when she's grown past the entry level status.

Getting a job in Anambra that pays more than 30k monthly is like expecting a horse to pass through an eye of a needle..

Don't mind her... she's comfortable that's why. I worked in an oil and gas company as a trainee and was paid 10k but I diligently did the work and gained as much experience as I could. And the next job after that, I was offered 270k with free health care and some other bonuses. People should just stop this mentality of looking for big salary without adequate experience.

I guess it's common to female because I called on a female friend for a job for her to gain experience but she declined because there's no dstv and tv for zee world, and the salary is small... Now others that took the offer has more experience and are getting jobs in hundreds of thousands while she is still looking and trusting uncles for job after NYSC.

i intentionally used the word "issue" i know we love giving nice politically correct words to issues. More the reason why I thought you dont stay in Nigeria because you even know the "trigger" words and how to sugarcoat it.
People want money but they are not ready to work. I have a lady in my team, she is always complaining instead of working. Always has excuse not to deliver her job. I think she is from Russia originally. Her matter done tire me. Funny thing is they have never queried her sef. I so hate it when she comes with her lamba.

I had one Aunty who was in uni thinking she'll land a heavy paying job after school. This was like 10 yrs ago, she turned down jobs of 50k saying they were too small without even having one. She's currently married with no job and had to volunteer at an NGO for them to consider her as staff. Just be wise

The challenge with most young ones today is entitlement mentality. They believe they deserve more from life and give very little back to life. They were raised by parents who said "I don't want my kids to suffer the same way I suffered". Now those kids have become over fed and over dependent.

While i encourage starters to be content, i also still have resentment for the way companies treat people.
In some cases, a 50k job is better than a 90k job, although this case seem extreme, but if you check her expenses, freedom, mental health, growth possibilities, extra small small change, 20k might be better.

I once worked in a firm that took my entire time both day and night, at the end, i was laid off, no benefit, no development after 6 years.

My advise to people is that you weigh everything b4 accepting, you can also take the job for a while, but if not careful, 5 years would pass like breeze. Choose possibilty for development, rest of mind, mental health, money and growth possibility. Most of these firm don't care about you, so be selfish too, when employed, do your job diligently and prioritize your development and growth.

Second advice, also note that before that big job comes, you need to start from somewhere, sometimes for the big one to come is through the small one, so instead of been idle, always have something doing when ever possible.
