Guys, recently I was reading a book by Thomas L. Friedman tittled "The World is Flat". He has this to say about country like Nigeria, Venezuela e.c.t. Here is what he wrote :

"Nothing has contributed more to retarding the emergence of a democratic context in places like Venezuela, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Iran than the curse of oil. As long as the monarchs and dictators who run these oil states can get rich by drilling their natural resources-as opposed to drilling the natural talents and energy of their people-they can stay in office forever."

Please what do you think about what he said

He is right. but if the drilling of this natural resources can be channel to the right channel, the citizen will be better for it.

Nothing but pure drivel from Mr Friedman. If he isnt an apologist for the great satan, he should know that Venezuela, Iran and Nigeria do not have dictators or monarchs. The great satan has directly contributed to retarding of democracy in oil rich countries such as Saudi Arabia and the affluent gulf states by their unflinching support for the monarchy in these countries while paying lip service to enthrenchment of democracy in those same countries.
