Angry residents of Abeokuta, Ogun State, were seen on the streets protesting the unending cash and fuel scarcity in the country.

In some of the videos shared on social media, an angry mob advances towards a First Bank branch in the state capital. The mob, attempting to destroy the bank, hurls stones and sticks at it.

In a video, the protester behind the camera says he loves the spike of violence as the situation has become unbearable.

Yes, this is how it should be. The suffering is too much. I support that. Everywhere,” the masculine voice says repeatedly.

A source who spoke with FIJ said the violence was sparked by the refusal of a Guaranty Trust Bank in the Asero area of the state capital to allow residents access cash after a ‘bullion van’ was seen entering its compound.

“Earlier, around noon, people traced a ‘bullion van’ to the GTBank in Asero, he told FIJ.

When people got to the bank, officials told them there was no money, which made them angry.

“They got hold of the bank manager and unleashed their anger on him.”

The source said although security operatives immediately stepped in to contain the violence, their presence didn’t stop it from spreading to other parts of the state capital.

“Even though military personnel and security operatives were immediately deployed, the mob took their protest to an Access Bank branch in Car Wash before proceeding to Sapon,” the source said.

“In Sapon, they set fire to a First Bank branch.”

He noted that the protests in Abeokuta, though sparked by the unavailability of naira notes and petrol, was compounded by a prolonged power outage in the town.

On Friday, FIJ reported that residents of Ibadan, Oyo State, protested the scarcity of naira notes in the country.

Nigerians need to call on the sack of the evil man called Emiefele.

Many people might be foolish to buy the narrative that Emiefele is fighting corruption but it's actually your head that's being used to break Coconuts.

Ask yourself why Emiefele did not implement the new naira policy before the APC primaries. Why did he wait till he lost the election after he wasted lots of looted old money buying campaign buses?

Let's agree on the useless narrative that the new note policy was a fight against Tinubu, do you think someone of Tinubu's caliber will find it hard distributing his stash to his influential boys over the country to bring him new notes while you wallow away at the ATM stands from dawn till dusk?

Emiefele is basically on a revenge mission of "we all lose if I can't win"

Misdirected anger. Urchins and miscreants on the loose because the reality is clearer now. They never opposed the RUGA, fulani/terrorist Killings, subsidy, senseless border blockage Buhari imposed among many ill governance.

Tinubu kept quiet. Afonja kept quiet. Suddenly currency swap became a masquerade they carry for head like gala. Meanwhile, this is the kind of bullion vans they should face or attack;

Northern cabals want to hold on to power in order to continue profiting from terrorism, banditry, and another evil avenue through which they siphon money into their pockets.

They know quite well, an emergence of confident southern politicians will spell the end of their evil business.

The earlier Nigerians wake up to the agenda these people are playing, the better.

The Bullion Van druggie is fighting dirty. cheesy

APC created a Big Monster by allowing a questionable character like Tinubu emerge as Flagbearer (via influencing delegates with money).
Now APC, in trying to curb the Big Monster, created another Monster that is suffering Nigerians. cool

People sleep and wake up every day with new ideas. Emefiele undoubtedly should have started this implementation early enough.
But then, I cannot believe that people in a town like Abeokuta are burning things over this cashless policy. These people ought to be enlightened better than people in rural communities. If they are not sponsored by politicians, I take it that the problem of Nigerians is our obsession with cash transactions.

This policy was made public in 2012, and over a decade later, people haven't embraced it yet. The truth is, more cash will flow into the system in the coming weeks because bank managers are selling cash to the highest bidders; they will be stopped. However, everyone must get used to using cash as an alternative where we cannot use online or digital channels for transactions. Less cash; more digital transactions. This is what a cashless economy means.

You are sounding senseless as a zombie. Guess you have forgotten that the APC including Tinubu shamelessly deceived a nation they came to fight corruption. Yet many corruption cases were shove aside because of political interest.

Can you imagine, a Tinubu seen parading bullion vans in an election eve whom he proudly said belongs to him. Yet one stupid and senseless APC urchin in 2023 said the bullion vans missed their way? 2023: How I Plan To Fight Corruption – Tinubu

Can you recall the same Tinubu hailed his siemese twin Gandollar caught stuffing wads of corrupt dollar bride into his babanriga for fighting corruption? So you see that you have no moral right to point an accusing finger against Godwin Emefiele?

Man, it's not about making policies but choosing the best time to implement it. It's not about waking one morning and then implement a policy without considering the ripple effect on the majority.

How can you choose to set a panic mode among the people in the build up to an election?
Don't you think people should be thinking of finding their ways to get their PVCs while others find a way to travel down to their Polling units ?

Emiefele's action is inexcusable and President Buhari should have thought better .
During President Jonathan's tenure, the transition of notes was seamless and well timed. Why then should Emiefele wait till he lost an election?

That's the thing. There's no cash. First all criminal politicians have their personal loot separate from Election funds.

That's what they fall back to on rainy days so they don't use it for elections. They have to chose between saving their personal loot or the Election slush funds due to shortage of new Naira notes.

That's why you see them running upandan. No money for Election.
