I am a trader in main market Onitsha. I have a shop in Popular Relief market and also Visited “New parts “ market in Onitsha today .

Despite the today’s (10th February ) deadline from the CBN, everyone in these markets are still trading as if nothing is happening. Starting from the motorists to the hawkers in Onitsha, no one rejects the old notes.

Though I'm scared, but I didn't give any directives to my subjects. They collects anyone they see.

As I type this, they have made up to #300,000 cash from today's sales while I wallow in confusion.

What is the situation in your area please, are the old notes rejected or being accepted??

N:B, don't mind my English, I'm just a trader

Bros, nothing do your English. We are spending the Old Notes with the anew Notes till July 31st 2023.

Don't mind the confused lots in Govt.

It is possible that in other areas of Lagos, people are not accepting the old notes. I would advise that you deposit your old notes so as not to lose your money. Politicians are fighting each other, don't be caught in the crossfire.

Here in Lagos, old notes are still being spent. I am yet to see anyone rejecting the old notes.

Old notes should be recirculated if the new notes are not available.

You are not depositing to collect.

You are only depositing to key into the cashless society.
First
The bank network in Nigeria is not working to support a cashless society.
Secondly the backbone infrastructure for seamless, secure and safe cashless economy in Nigeria is very limited to very few sectors
Third if you know how power supply is in Nigeria then imagine cashless!
Fourth imagine the number of traders who are illerate and underbanked etc

And you want me to deposit a legal tender note to now spend hours of productive time searching for the new notes that the banks don't have

Verve choi! I remember when first bank wanted to give me Verve card as atm card. I told the guy he should change it immediately.
The guy was arguing that the card is good and that I have already billed from my account, I told him no problem collect the atm fee but I am not taking a Verve card, it is either mastercard or visa. I ended up with first bank expressions mastercard.
Verve is not a good card for atm
IranianSea:
ShopRite rejected Old notes! Verve cards rejected by their payment machine. You can only transfer then send the receipt of your transaction to their email, then wait till they verify it, then, they will email you the confirmation receipt, then you take the receipt to the cashier, then your goods handover to you. Very long and stressed.

Here in ABA, many people are rejecting the old notes especially the higher denominations of 1000,500, and 200. They are accepting onl 100 and 50naira old notes, higher denominations must be new notes.
See this Bushman

Who told you they're changing ₦100 and ₦50?

There's nothing like old notes for ₦100, ₦50, ₦20, ₦10 and ₦5

One of the aims of the naira redesign is to transition to a cashless economy. If the bank can't give the same value in new notes, they can transfer it to your bank account.

baralatie:

Will you be given the same volume of new notes you deposit on that same day?

you can carry out transactions using transfer, where POS is available you carry out transactions using ATM card if you want or if the seller wants
baralatie:

So the person will now be running from one ATM to another ATM in different locations to get the new notes?
Re: Naira Redesign : CBN Deadline ; What's the situation in your area ? by TemmyT002(m): 8:45pm On Feb 10, 2023
Very few people are collecting it.
Okada riders are not
POS people are not collecting it
Filling stations are nor collecting it.
Re: Naira Redesign : CBN Deadline ; What's the situation in your area ? by Iseddy: 8:45pm On Feb 10, 2023

Re: Naira Redesign : CBN Deadline ; What's the situation in your area ? by angelfallz(m): 8:46pm On Feb 10, 2023
Trust the CBN at your own risk.
Serious business people would have made POS machines available for transactions and also will be ready to accept transfers.

IntroTech:
Only people who are not serious with their business will be rejecting the old notes.

The CBN has stated that they will still collect the old notes so why will you hurt your business waiting to trade with the new notes that are still as scarce as diamonds whereas you can continue conducting business as usual with the old notes?

It doesn't make any sense to me at all.

All these challenges you mentioned are true.

But then again, the beauty of innovation is that it takes challenges to spur innovations.

While some people are still complaining that we don't have the network backbone, infrastructure, security for seamless cashless operations, some people are already seizing this rare opportunity and they are already building the network backbones, infrastructures, security for seamless cashless operations and they are surely going to make billions and billions of dollars from doing that.

It all a matter of where you choose to focus your energy on.

A word is more than enough for the wise.
