@ OP, Fulanis DID NOT originate from Europe. They are a West African group that originated in Africa but due to their itinerary nature(beem pastoralists) have picked up different DNA from some of the people they have interacted with for thousands of years.

Their Y and X chromosomes are mainly West African; altho in terms of Autosomal DNA they do have a somewhat East Africa and northern African tilt in addition to the base West African.

Advanced DNA tests indeed show a European ancestry fraction from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal) based on all the ancestry DNA research work and videos I have seen in the last 15 years.

This ISN'T strange because historically, the Berbers (also called Amazighs) of North Africa (who are native to Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Libya) had alongside Muslim Arabs invaded Spain and Portugal and occupied that region for over 700 years till 1492 when the Spanish and Portuguese combined their military forces to kick the Moors (Berbers/Arabs) out of the Iberian Peninsula. Spain was infact called Al-Andalus by the Muslim.

So, in the course of occupation of Spain, the Berbers fathered children from Spanish women and there were a male Spanish Muslim converts. So, that's how European ancestral bloodlines got mixed with Berber bloodlines.

When after 1492, the Berber-Arabs got kicked out of Europe, many of them returned in large numbers to North Africa and proceeded to destabilize already existing empires in West Africa by attacking them with muskets got from Europe. In the course of these attacks by people of Berber stock, they also started fathering children with some captive females from West Africa ethnic stocks in the Mauritania and Senegal area and that is how the Fulani stock EVOLVED with a paternal Berber lineage (who as earlier stated have a small Iberian Peninsula or Spanish bloodline) from their over 700 years in Spain, and a maternal lineage that has an indegenous West African maternal lineage.

This is why the Fulanis also have a small Iberian Peninsula (Spanish) and Berber lineage, plus the West African maternal lineage from the Senegal/Mauritania area. In terms of looks, some of the Fulanis like the Bororos also have the lighter skins, slim features and pointed nostrils further confirming the North African side of their lineage. But a vast percentage of Fulani lineage is genetically West African because of admixtures with other West African groups that have wiped out the North African physical body structures.

All the male and female Fulanis who's ancestry DNA tests I have studied ALL have that small European and Berber DNA percentage popping up.
