He's in a better position to answer that question but he can't now because he's dead.

Other people you saw destroying those Banks are also people's cousins, brothers, uncle, fathers inlaws etc. So what's the relevance of this your question.

Modified : His friends said they were not even actively participating in the violent protest. They were just passers-by who happened to be in the crossfire..

It could be a lie or not. Nobody knows anymore than the dead 19 year old Osamuyi.
sorry for your loss boss.

Senselessness, after destroying the bank building did they get the new notes? NO. will the banks open even if new notes are available now? NO....its gpnna take months for banks to open in Benin after this destruction leaving these senseless people more stranded.
no, according to what i just read it wasn't about collecting new notes, it was about being able to deposit old notes so i totally understand the frustration

You exercised extremely poor judgement in your comment. Apologise to the grieving relative and quit justifying your comment.

I will leave you with words of wisdom from Detective Benoit Blanc (played by Daniel Craig) in the classic movie Glass Onion. He was addressing a character who felt she was always picked on for being able to speak aloud what everyone else was too hypocritical, afraid or conservative to say. He said the following to her; " It's a dangerous thing to MISTAKE speaking WITHOUT THOUGHT for speaking the truth". You, my friend, with your comment, just did that.

Apologise to the relative of the dead.

But these were armed people attacking and trying to break into a bank. Not unarmed protesters.

Of course it might be. I didn’t say he was part of the people who vandalized the banks. Only he knows. I simply asked why was he in their midst.

This is Nigeria, it might just be a stray bullet.

I obviously didn’t say for sure. I asked a question. Why was he in the vicinity. If you know, please provide an answer.

The truth is the truth.I lived in the UK for more than twenty years and on getting back I realized that Nigerians are very daft comparatively and that someone with a GCSE in Britain is more intelligent than a Nigerian degree holder. Nigerians are impulsive, lack control and are easily tempted
.The economic well being of a country is directly linked to the collective intelligence of the citizenry. Nigeria is messed up because the people there are cognitively stymied.
@Babalegba,

There are folks in every country who have emotional intelligence and are able to tame the negative emotions you listed right up there in your post.

You are largely right based on the defamatory and insidious posts some trolls, ethnic bigots and irresponsible posters put up relentlessly on NL but you should have stated SOME Nigerians so that you do not come off as generalizing and arrogant. Period.

All the best.

I only pity for the mother and family at large honestly, nobody should have to go through that kind of loss, BUT your cousin died a Foolish Man's death and history will be quick to forget him, infact history has forgotten him because nobody knew his name, I repeat he died a Foolish man and not an hero... I was parked at Globus bank opposite Central Bank and I watched everything played out.... The police told them more than a dozen times to go back, but they kept advancing towards the police asin mob action style. Then the police opened the white gate and then came out masked fully Kitted men with assault Rifle who shot directly at them, not in the air, but directly at them. And immediately those masked men went back inside the bank, and police started doing what u were seeing of shooting in the air.... If they (your cousin) was allowed to invade the bank, that would have sent a wrong message out against the central bank being impenetrable... So your cousin got what he signed up for, I only pity the mother honestly... Those who stay around Benin can attest to the fact that sometime ago, a man was shot in his leg twice for making call by the fence of the CBN... Now the senseless riot has ended and everyone has gone to their different place of work and different life and to ur cousin lost his life for no valid reason and putting the mom through such an agony, ooh poor woman, for that pain ur cousin caused the mother, your cousin can not REST IN PEACE.. Lai Lai

What's the point of this now

I was going home yesterday when they started the protests in Ibadan. I had to walk amidst them to reach another point to take bike.

I'm just saying. This is Nigeria, may Nigeria not happen to us.

I'm Nigerian so my view on the matter is not an abstracted one but experiential. I'm a realist.Nigerians would excel where structures are already in place to reward or punish like in western countries but the typical nigerian is just too weak willed and unprincipled to construct strong effective institutions because of self centeredness , general moral weaknesses and propensity for shortcuts.
It does make me sad but the truth is always bitter. Most Nigerian lives are essentially meaningless but there are some negligible percentage of Nigerians who are not of the normal mould.

Well said @Babalegba.

Your thoughts here deeply resonate with me.

From your other post, I perfectly detected on the primal level your disgust at the state of human capital, and the weakened institutions since you have lived in the UK for 20 years as well where things work with a lot more efficiency.

Ah! Yes I know you are a Nigerian of Egba descent, hence your moniker.

Thanks for sharing your mature thoughts here... I learned something significant from your submission.

Only wicked fools still supporting one Nigeria. Politicians making polices, zombies implementing the policies, while over 400 millions populations in contraption eating from CBN wotowoto.

I'm sorry for my poor judgement, I spoke carelessly irrational and Insensitive which was bad and unfair... But truly I sympathise with the mother and the family at large.. Please we should all learn to teach our children to fleet the sight of Any protest turned Riot... I pray God give the mother the fortitude to bear this lost, nobody deserve to loose a child under any circumstances.. There is a saying where I'm from that we can birth a bad child but we can't kill a bad child...
@DJperdurabo thanks a lot for showing me how Insensitive my comment was regardless if it is true or false, and thanks for not judging me regardless.. May you days be long on earth & may wisdom never elude u

The relevance is that vandalism is a crime. It’s always best to stay away from criminals. When people send broadcasts like “them Dey riot for so so place, avoid that area until peace is restored”, e get why.

I am not happy with the way this policy he been handled but I will not be in the midst of people causing mayhem in the name of protests.

As you said though, only he could have explained properly but o ti lo.

how do you know that the deceased was involved in vandalism?
