It is popular meme among adults in Nigeria that to spare the rod is to spoil the child. But does that give the go ahead to mutilate, incapacitate or injure a child?

Adult on children abuse is the most rampant form of abuse in Nigeria.
Children are major victims of Domestic Violence .
When talking about Domestic abuse i see too much concentration on the victim/perpetrator model which focuses on the two adults, however, Children are also victims of said abuse. There are negative effects on the mental health of a child and in the process of trying to seperate their parents from fighting might end up getting hurt.

Such as this: https://www.nairaland.com/6107308/parents-always-fight-abusing-children

Apart from that, children are among the highest victims of sexual abuse, physical abuse and all other forms of abuse.

So far I have seen no serious litigation or penalty for those who commit such attrocities
on innocent children. Nor safe houses for children to run to in case of such abuse in Nigeria. We need more Government interference and NGOs in such issues.

It seems Nigeria is a country with audio laws with people doing however they feel like.

¶ Countless of time we see cases of men having sex with infants and underage children.
What pleasure does a man gain from having sex with someone with a boobs or backside is disenchansing.
Men have beaten children to dead , incapacitate babies or strangled them to dead. It is disheartening that children are used for money rituals and all sort of evil and they have no one to fight for them.

Sexual abuse is not limited to men alone, women have also been shown to carry out such acts.

¶ Sometimes a close relative or a maid will rape a child. For example :

¶ There was a lady i once heard in the news who was caught sleeping with her underage brother, she was asked why did she do it and she said it's because he is very handsome.

Physical Abuse is also very rampant.
¶ There was a post a couple of years back about a woman who used a hot iron on a child because he didn't do what she told him to do.

¶ Another woman on a salah day slaughter her son like a ram.

I can't help but notice that it seems women are agressive to children who are not their offsprings. If they don't like children entrusted to their care they can do away with them instead of causing harm in the guide of "sparing the rod and spoiling the child"

¶ Women chopped off the finger of her niece: https://www.nairaland.com/6141908/woman-chops-off-nieces-finger
¶ Another woman at it on a child who is not her biological child.
https://www.nairaland.com/7531341/boy-suffers-serious-burns-after

¶ Men tend to resort to flogging, punching, beating , strangling and all other physical force on children.
Women on the other hand tend to use objects to punish the child. Such as use of hot iron or metal, pouring hot water, knife , rod , stone etc

How do you think Animals are treated in a zoo?

Our kids here get's treated worst than animals in the zoo....

It's crazy to think that the only way to correct a child is by hitting that child...

Children make mistakes just like Adults too but who is there to hit the Adult always and often?

I will tell people, the day anybody will hit my child because he/she is correcting my child then he/she should be ready to get into a boxing ring with me!!!

A child gets molested emotionally and mentally at home and still in the school and we call that discipline. 😡😡😡😡

This is the best time to talk about it, else we'll never be ready for it.

It runs deep even in Nigerian constitution. It will require a revolution.

I think it has less to do with Nigeria and more with culture and economy. Conservative, poor countries always feature the highest rate of child abuse.

Humans are often victims of their environment. The brutal treatment the Nigerian society dishes out is circular. People do onto others what has been done to them and hide it under the guise of that's how it is, Children aren't exempt from this.

Nigerian culture is violent and aggressive. Children aren't exempt from it. Physical violence against children is often an extension of corporal punishment. Caning is justification for slapping which is justification for punching and so on.

Nigeria is frustrating and children are easy targets for that frustration. An outlet that can't fight back.

Children are also seen as the Property of their parents instead of individuals and wards of the state. And you can do to your property how you wish.

A thread about how a woman abused a small child on nairaland is disturbing.

https://www.nairaland.com/7837533/wicked-woman-starves-beats-5-year-old

Serious action to tackle child abuse is needed.
