Scarcity Of New Naira Notes: Peace Ambassador, Aderibigbe Fault President Buhari by Newsextra014: 8:19am On Feb 17, 2023
Mixed reaction has trailed the Speech of President Muhammadu Buhari as regards the scarcity of the New Naira Note and that the Old N200 remains a Legal Tender till 10th of April 2023, while the Old N500 and N1,000 Notes cease to be a Legal Tender.

In view of this, the Country Director, International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), a global non-governmental organisation with the United Nations (UN) and President of the National Carrot Growers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria, (NACAGPROMAN), John Adekorede Aderibigbe said he is saddened by the present economic situation that has inflicted pains, agony and suffering on Nigerians over the policy of the President Buhari led Government and Governor of the Apex Bank, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele.

Aderibigbe stressed that though he appreciated the President for coming out to address the citizens which is long overdue, but his speech that ought to douse the tension on the people over this policy has further aggravated the situation, and if care is not taken, it will plunge into anarchy.

He made this assertions in a Statement through his Media Aide, Akinwale Kasali, that in saner climes the President of the Nation address the people from time to time, updating them on Policies, innovations and development, rather, reverse is the case here.

He added that the speech of the President is Contempt of Court as the Apex Court, the Supreme Court is yet to give a verdict having suspended the CBN from implementing this policy with the hearing of the Suit adjourned to February 22nd, 2023.

“It saddens me to see the way people are suffering and not having access to their hard earned money. You don’t just make policies without putting a lot of things into consideration.

“Some group of people are deciding the fate of over 200 million people without showing any empathy and human feelings. A lot of people have lost their lives as a result of this scarcity of money and the CBN, and the Presidency are still being rigid, this is unfair and totally unacceptable”.

Speaking further, the former Presidential Aspirant said he sympathized with those that lost their lives in Edo State, Oyo State, Delta State and others States across the nation while protesting the scarcity of the New Naira Note and the rejection of the Old Naira Note, admonishing Nigerians to remain calm and embrace peace as this is a phase that we will all overcome.

“ I am saddened and traumatized by the pains and anguish inflicted on innocent Nigerians by the inhuman implementation of this policy which has degenerated to pockets of violence and it’s attendant destruction of properties and loss of life.

“I condemn in its entirety the violence and call on Nigerians to remain calm and not to fall prey to the plots of anti democratic elements whose major goal is to truncate the smooth conduct of the 2023 general elections and plunge the nation into anarchy.

“Let’s all embrace peace and know that all this will pass, and we will all enjoy the dividend of democracy. Let us not destroy national assets and corporate assets as this will further escalate the situation”, the Peace Ambassador stressed.

The United Nations Peace Advocacy Campaigner said it is unfortunate that the President is not respecting the rule of law which is sacrosanct, hereby appealing to the President to rescind his decision on the Old N500 and N1,000 Notes to avoid crisis in the country.

“ I urged President Buhari to retract that part of his speech in obedience to the supreme court ruling that the old N200, N500 and N1000 remain legal tender till the determination of the suit which next hearing is slated for the 22nd of February 2023.

“If the Presidency does not have a rethink about his decision, we may have a nationwide crisis that could truncate the 2023 General Election that is just less than Nine Days away.

“The people don’t have access to this New Notes, and you are saying the Old Note is no longer a Legal Tender, so how will the citizens transact business and fend. You can’t keep allowing the citizens to go through hardship over a policy that is unfavourable.
