After my previous thread, I received a lot of questions on the thread and through PM. The questions mostly border on how one can start from almost nothing and still manage to make something positive out of their situation. For this reason, I have decided to open this thread to address such questions and other things related to them.

Coming from a disadvantaged background has both advantages and disadvantages. One of the main benefits is that you may have to mature at an early age and start assuming responsibilities for so many things in life. On the other hand, the greatest disadvantage is that your background may put you behind your peers for no fault of your own making. For this reason, you may suffer serious deprivations which may likely affect your life choices and achievements in terms of education, marriage, wealth accumulation, and even death!

Thankfully, the outcome of our lives is not entirely dictated by fate. Our actions, inactions, choices and chance all combine to shape how we turn out to be. Hence, I am working with the assumption that the little things you do today may have a huge influence on your life tomorrow.

I am having difficulty selecting the best strategy to adopt for this writing as I am trying to be as practical as possible. Let me see if we can find a suitable strategy as we move on.

I hope someone will benefit from the information I am about to share.

Caveat: Depending on your background, beliefs, and educational, some of the things that will be discussed here may not apply to your situation. In that case, please only act on what you believe is in your best interest and disregard the suggestions here.

Enough with the story, let’s start….

Come and pitch your tents here if you are interested 😉

Mister A is about 18 years, and he just completed High School. His parents have informed him that they do not have the financial strength to support him in higher education. However, Mr A wants to further his education but he has no clue of what to do next.

Here is what I would do if I found myself in a similar situation.

First, I will thank my parents and inform them that I would like to try things out on my own. Once I get their approval, I will look around to see if I can find survival jobs such as salesboy, factory job, nanny, teacher or any other one within my area. If I cannot find any, I will reach out to some of my high school classmates either through phone calls, in-person or through social media like Facebook or Twitter. Once we meet, I will ask them about things and what they have been up to. If I am able to get anything still, I will plead with my parents to let me stay with one of their relatives in another city so I can try my chances from there. If my parents do not agree, I will inform my religious leader (pastor or imam) to link me with a member of our religious group that may need such service. If this also fails, I will decide to assist the people in my community to clean their houses and wash their clothes weekly for a fee.

Once I get my first customer, I will plead with them to assist me in telling their friends and family about my services. I will also start posting on my WhatsApp and other social media pages. If I am lucky enough to have more customers, I will continue working in this way and saving most of my money while eating free food at home and living rent-free. Depending on how much I am able to save, I will do this for at least a year and I will ensure I learn a skill such as electrical installation or painting before I register for the university/polytechnic matriculation examination.

Hello all,

This weekend, I want to talk about freelancing and how to make money from it.
Since storytelling is one of the best ways of passing a message, I have invited a freelancer who started just like everyone late last year and is now doing well for herself. She is a Nigerian scriptwriter who started freelancing on Upwork without prior experience. We met late last year when she had just started her freelance journey and we would exchange ideas on different things. I feel most of us will be able to relate to her story and it is better having her here than telling the story.

Let me know if you are still following smiley

I started looking for ways to earn online last year. Being a mum and a housewife without working. I had to look for something to be able to support my husband and get industrious too. I searched online but couldn't find anything helpful. Not until I came across a post made by an influencer that I followed on Facebook on how to acquire digital skills and monetize them. I had to click the link and joined the group. I made inquiries and paid for the class and that was the beginning of an eye-opener for me.

Is anyone following?

It would be nice if you created a whatsapp group or something for something such as this. Just my opinion

After registering for the training, I followed up and at the end of the training, I got my first gig! Though the pay for the gig wasn't much I was glad I got a gig😊. I haven't worked before so such a privilege to work and earn YOUR OWN money was something I cherished a lot. After that, I got two more other contracts but I had to make my research and compile a lot of things that weren't taught in the training that I registered for. I got rejections but after making research I came back strong 😊. As of now, I am a top-rated freelancer who earns $800+ monthly. It took me 4 months to be where I am today. Four months of hard work and consistency. I was determined to make it. I have earned $3k in just 4 months and I have 22 different client's that I am working with long term as of now.
