[b]Victims of intimate abuse by Catholic priests have accused the pope, the Vatican secretary of state and two other high-ranking Holy See officials of crimes against humanity, in a formal complaint to the international criminal court (ICC). The submission, lodged at The Hague on Tuesday, accuses the four men not only of failing to prevent or punish perpetrators of violation and intimate violence but also of engaging in the "systematic and widespread" practice of concealing intimate crimes around the world. It includes individual cases of abuse where letters and documents between Vatican officials and others show a refusal to co-operate with law enforcement agencies seeking to pursue suspects, according to the Centre for Constitutional Rights (CCR), a US-based organisation that represents the claimants. According to the document filed by CCR, the pope, as head of the Catholic church, is ultimately responsible for the intimate abuse of children by priests and for the cover-ups of that abuse. The group argues that he and others have "direct and superior responsibility" for the crimes of those ranked below them, similar to a military chain of command. Amnesty International's latest annual human rights report, which cited the Holy See for the first time, concluded there was widespread evidence of child intimate abuse by members of the clergy over past decades, and an "enduring failure" of the Catholic church to seek redress. @claremot do you really for 1 second beleive the pope would actually be tried for these crimes.Well there are variety of reasons why the case would not see d light of d day. 1.Morally-the pope on his own did not commit any of these crimes hence cannot be tried for someone else's crime. 2.Legally-the vatican is a sovereign nation and is not signatory 2 d ICC's charter. 3.Politically-the pope is one of the most influential men in d world with over a billion adherents scattered throughout the globe.Any attempt to arrest hiom will trigger a global tsunami far worse than d arab spring. 1 Like |

When Nigerian Christians get excited over these kinds of attempts to discredit the Pope and the Catholic Church, I laugh. I laugh because they are too myopic to see the big picture. They don't see it's the devil's plan against his number one enemy on earth - The Catholic Church. The number one voice against the killing of innocent souls in the womb, against same-sex marriage, the number one voice that stands for the dignity of the human being. The voice of truth. Well, to address the main issue @ hand, has any of you clamouring for the Pope's conviction heard his own side of the story? I'm sure the answer is NO. So you have judged already without hearing from him. That shows hatred. Your motivation is not reason, concern for the victims or any other thing but hatred for the Pope. Let's call a spade a spade, rather than calling it a large kitchen utensil. Everyone who has paid just a cursory attention to this despicable and vile issue over the years will know that the present Pope played a leading role in a systematic cover-up of child sex abuse by Roman Catholic priests. In 2001, while he was a cardinal, he issued a secret document to Catholic bishops all over the world, instructing them to put the Church's interests ahead of child safety. Priests who were accused of systematic and wanton abuse of children, rather than being struck off, they were simply moved to another parish were they continued their despicable actions. As the head of an organisation, he is indeed liable for the conduct of his employees. The Pope is not a demi-god, he is a human being just like the rest of us; if indeed he feels that he has got nothing to hide, then he should readily submit himself to the court and face questioning! |

It's still an allegation. And if you don't work in the hague, how do you know for sure that this is true, if someone that works in the hague said so, tell us the person.
