The 2023 election has come and it is almost over. About 400 billion has been expended and precious lives lost.

As someone who has witnessed and participated several elections in Nigeria, I believe the INEC owes Nigerians an unreserved apology for wasting tax payers money.

INEC’s conduct of this election is a reflection of the fact that they either do not understand the challenges of the Nigerian election or they decided to collude intentionally.

The introduction of BVAS was a master stroke in this election, unfortunately it has been rendered impotent. The use of BVAS is the reason why we aren’t seeing exaggerated number of voters.
Opposition parties can easily challenge election results by requesting for the BVAS documented number of accredited voters in each polling unit and compare it with what INEC presents at the collation centers. Any PU that has a higher number of voters than what the BVAS records must be discarded.

By not being firm on instances of Voters disenfranchisement due to intimidation or violence occasioned by party thugs in collusion with security agencies the commission inadvertently endorses and encourages this criminality.

The worst disservice the commission has done in this election is in their refusal to instantly upload election results at the polling units. This singular action rendered the use of BVAS absolutely useless and a waste of tax payers money.
Aggrieved political parties should collate their own unit by unit results and take up their cases at the courts.
They should also insist of cancellations of elections and rescheduling in places where there were voter intimidation.

The election was marred by:

Late arrival of INEC officials

Voter intimidation, violence against voters sometimes in collusion with security agents.

Failure to upload results in real-time

Political interference from state governments and other political actors.

Going forward INEC should make it possible to thumbprint on the BVAS or any alternate device and save cost on worthless ballot papers.
