More knocks for INEC over 2023 elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has continued to receive knocks over allegations of electoral malpractice, during last Saturday's presidential elections.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, National Peace Committee, opposition parties and several international monitoring groups said the exercise was marked by violence, delays and manipulations, thus disenfranchised many voters, in some parts of the country.

Obasanjo in a letter, which he personally signed and read, called on President, Muhammadu Buhari, to urge the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to suspend the announcement of results and address the concerns by the electorate.

Thabo Mbeki, a former president of South Africa said "INEC needs to correct the things that need to be corrected."

Similarly, several international observer groups United States(US), European Union(EU), Civil Society Organizations(CSOs) and the Common Wealth criticized the conduct of the exercise.

Protests rocked some areas in Edo, Rivers and Lagos states, over incidences of violence, rigging, delays by INEC officials and vote-buying at several polling units.
