To declare any candidate as the Winner of the Presidential Elections, one needs to win 2/3 of the States. But there's confusion already as 2/3 of the 36 States excluding the FCT is 24 States...And including the FCT is 24.67 States. grin cheesy grin

So who is going to get the 2/3?

Pls you are the one creating the confusion. the constitution is clear about 2/3 of the state and the FCT. If you are instructed in an exam to " answer question 1 and any other 3 questions" will you dare replace question 1 with another question? you will simply loose the total mark of the compulsory question.

I saw that thing o. From my own understanding, BAT cannot meet the criteria as he has less than 25 per cent in the FCT. But you know... The lawmakers have their own views about all these things.

Here is what chatGPT says:

Candidate Requirements for Nigeria's Presidential Election

In the general elections in Nigeria, what happens if a candidate is able to get at least 25% in 26 states but failed to get 25% in the FCT

In Nigeria's general elections, the candidate who wins the majority of the votes cast and at least 25% of the votes in at least two-thirds (24) of Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is declared the winner.

If a candidate is able to get at least 25% of the votes in 26 states but fails to get 25% of the votes in the FCT, the candidate will not be declared the winner of the presidential election. To be declared the winner, a candidate must meet all the conditions set out in the Nigerian Constitution, including winning at least 25% of the votes in the FCT.

In such a situation, the election may be declared inconclusive, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may schedule a supplementary election in the FCT to determine the winner of the presidential election. Alternatively, if another candidate meets all the conditions and has the highest number of votes, that candidate may be declared the winner of the presidential election.
