Hello nairalanders.

Please I need expert opinions and advise on this.

I got a new fridge yesterday (picture attached). The fridge was tested at the store and it worked well but it's not cooling now despite showing light inside.

I called the man who sold it and he was talking about my wiring. That 1mm wire will not carry the fridge. I don't understand this as I plugged it directly to the wall socket and I expect it to work.

Now, my question is that if I buy a stabilizer and add to it, will it work? Or how do I determine the type of wiring used in my house?

I would have returned it for another but I'm considering the distance as I had to pay for waybill to bring it to my place.

If the current is low it won't come on, I will advise you use it with a stabilizer to test and see but if doesn't work return the fridge immediately to the seller before it's too late.

Check the thermostat (I'm not sure if that's what they call it) it's a little white knob with numbers for increasing or decreasing the temperature/coolness.

It may be on one or zero, if it's not, then you have a problem on your hands and please get a fridge guard for your fridge. It will guard against power surge and easy damage to your fridge.

Never heard of this brand before and why weren't you informed of the 1mm wire prior to purchase? I think that guy just wants more money out of you. Tested in front of who? If you say the product was way-billed to you, how certain are you that it worked well when tested?

Thanks for your response.

I've changed the position of the thermostat to see if it'll work. And about the 1mm wiring, he's claiming they use 1mm for the wiring of my house.

I was there during the testing and I had to waybill it myself to my house since it's far from where I got it.

I've also attached my TV guard picture, I don't know if it will work for the light surge.

Thank you. I'll have to buy a stabilizer first because I don't have any. I just wanted to be sure if buying a stabilizer will sort the problem.

I still advise, get a stabilizer guy. See if that current spoils the compressor you will have no need to return it. So to be safe get a stabilizer to use with that fridge.

Oh...okay @ the bolded.

Please get a fridge guard, I don't know if a TV guard will work the same way for a fridge.

I don't use mine interchangeably. I got a TV guard and a fridge guard.
A fridge guard will not upgrade the current that 1mm wire can not give. If that fridge is being used where the house wiring is done with 1mm wire even a 5000 watts stabilizer cannot power it. The only solution in such a case is to rewire the place with at least 1.5 or 2mm wire. I hope that helps.

Did you put on the fridge as soon as you offloaded it? If so, you must have damaged the compressor.

Get a stab like someone suggested, I wired my fridge socket with a 1.5mm wire, so that's not an excuse, just get a stab and see

Thanks bosses. I borrowed a stabilizer from my neighbor and it worked. It started cooling almost immediately. The seller should have just told me to get a stab immediately.

Please what is the capacity of the particular stab I attached. I want to get the same and anything similar since it worked with the fridge.

I really appreciate your contributions.

Yeah, I think that's what the seller should have said instead of looking for another thing. Maybe he thought I had already used stabilizer.

Some things people don't understand after buying electrical appliances that uses compressors like AC, fridge and co. You are not supposed to turn on the refrigerator until after at least 24 hours of mounting or placing it in the area of your house/apartment you wish to. During the course of transporting the refrigerator from purchase point, the gas in the compressor has passed through distortion, there's a particular term it is called, I have forgotten it. When this happens and then you turn on the refrigerator immediately, it would never cool. Check the manual, it is written there. Leave the refrigerator for at 24 hours then turn it on again and thank me later.

Wow, thanks for this insight. I just needed to confirm if it's working properly.

Looks like AVR 3000VA from the picture.

A 1000VA stabiliser will work just fine.

If the refrigerator was standing during transportation to your house, you are supposed to leave it for about an hour in a standing position before plugin, otherwise you will damage the compressor.

When a cooling system is transported either side other than standing position, the refrigerants+oil flows from the compressor to the accumulator (dryer) . On arrival at the destination, you are to keep the fridge in a standing position for the oil in the dryer to return to the compressor (usually 40m-1hr on a safe side). If not you will damage both compressor and the dryer.

The truth is that probably the fridge has an issue and may not be as quality as it looks beautiful

No electrician uses 1mm for wall socket

If not fit the distance, I will suggest you take it to them let them on it there for 3 consecutive days running let's see if it will block a bag pure water

Lastly get an electrician to check your plugs and it's wiring of the house

But it's too early for such fridge to have issues

Thanks for your response. I don't think the fridge has an issue as it worked when used with a stabilizer. However, I'll use a stabilizer to check how long it takes to block a bag of pure water as you suggested.

The man is throwing around a lot of bs

First of all, all socket outlets are wired with 2.5mm cable

2 any modern fridge actually does not consume that much power, if you check the back the rating will not be up to 500w

Your lights are wired with 1.5mm cable which can carry up to 10amps (2000w)

If your wire is too small, it will melt. It will not affect the fridge

I doubt a Stabilizer will make much difference. If you had low voltage, other things would not be working

This is a scam these motherfuckers carry out where item will always work in thier place but fail on delivery.

You have bought a dubious product from a dubious seller. He will continue to tell you different stories

I am sorry for your loss.
