OK, here's the African reality. None of the African nations have major expeditionary capacities. That means their armies are not prepared to engage in logistical supply for their troops as they move out of their country into another country.

African armies are also short on armor and precision-strike capacities in their air forces. That plus the logistical problem means that most African armies would be bogged down in the country right next to their own, falling into a bloody, infantry-driven stalemate. African countries would have a hard time conquering one another.

Having said that, there are a few African armies that distinguish themselves verses their neighbors for a variety of reasons.

Egypt's army has been funded by the USA for decades--they have more modern equipment than pretty much any other African army and their military is pretty large as well. And generally considered capable.

South Africa also has a competent military in modern terms. Unlike Egypt, a lot of South African equipment is actually made in South Africa. If a war drug out long, South Africa would have an advantage in replenishing itself over all other African nations.

Ethiopia has a very large army that they've spent a great deal of effort training themselves. Ethiopia also has a long tradition of maintaining its own independence. Ethiopians would not easily surrender.

Nigeria is the most heavily populated country in Africa and in a war based on waves of bodies (as an all-African war could easily become), Nigeria would have the advantage over everyone else.

A group of East African nations have pretty good militaries and halfway decent economies in African terms. Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. (By the way, I worked with Ugandan troops in Africa and have a good opinion of them, generally speaking.)

Egypt, Ethiopia, and Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania are all relatively close to one another. They'd probably neutralize all their first-rate fighting capacities against one another and be down to militia fighting if they fought their closest enemy first (as most nations would normally do). None would really be winners, but Egypt with the help of Sudan would probably have the edge.

But if the East Africans could agree to simply not attack one another until they defeated the rest of Africa, the winner of an all-African war would probably be an East African nation. Probably Ethiopia, but it would depend on how things worked out, the order of who fought who.

Egypt and Ethiopia would probably lock horns in Sudan right away, effectively neutralizing one another. But if they didn't and Ethiopia pushed west or Uganda pushed west, they would run into Nigeria. Nigeria would be dominant in West Africa, but other than population, its military is pretty much second to any of the East African nations on a person per person basis.

Nigeria COULD win an all-African contest, but that would depend on the order of other people fighting. If Egypt or Ethiopia (or South Africa) set their sights on Nigeria first, Nigeria would lose. But the nation defeating Nigeria would be weakened to the point that it would be vulnerable to someone else attacking it. Nigeria would win by hanging around until other nations tired themselves out.

Speaking of that, South Africa is rather far away from the main other military powers in Africa. It could gain a lot by letting other militaries duke it out while they waited and played defense, which would be easy enough for them to do, while South African arms factories cranked out new equipment.

Of course if any other major African nation (or combination of nations) decided to set its sights on taking out South Africa first, SA obviously might get bogged down and possibly could lose such a war.

But overall, I'd say South Africa's industrial base and geographical separation from the rest of Africa's other main military powers gives it an advantage in an all-African war. If ANYONE would win such a war (again, the most likely scenario would be no victors in such a war, just a bloody stalemate), it would most likely be South Africa

Prepare for war, but pray for unity.

That's how the world is.

Only 4 countries have a strong military in Africa, I mean strong to withstand not strong in term of beating civilians in the streets.
South Africa
Egypt
Algeria
Morocco

Until Nigeria enters a real war, you won't know how bad our military is. The corruption in the Nigerian military is too deep, that we are lucky to be surrounded by weak and peaceful countries.

If Nigerian Army can't even finish boko haram and herdsmen after so many years, how can they stand a foreign army that meant business? We just have huge population, who will maybe delay the enemy advances by throwing bodies into the meat grinder.

But equipment, logistics and intelligence will always win. And I doubt our capabilities in these areas.
