The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC) on Sunday assured Nigerians that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will bring all Nigerians including opposition parties together through a gov­ernment of national unity.

Festus Keyamo (SAN), Min­ister of State for Labour and Employment and spokesperson of the APC-PCC during the just concluded presidential election, said Tinubu as a unifier will bring everybody on board, in­cluding his co-contestants in the presidential election, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Dem­ocratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

A faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide had urged Tinubu to reach out to other contestants in the spirit of sportsmanship, advising “that the national healing process should begin with the presi­dent-elect personally reaching out to Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi in person and not by proxy”.

The group in a statement by the Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, said: “Ndigbo urges the presi­dent-elect not to victimise any section of the country who vot­ed against him but as the new political leader of the country, he should ensure that Nigerians especially, Ndigbo, are accom­modated in the distribution of public amenities and provide an enabling environment for busi­nesses to thrive in the country. We call for the formation of Government of National Uni­ty (GNU). These are the ingre­dients that will soothe frayed nerves and restore peace across the country”.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Keya­mo, however, said Tinubu will not condone corruption and will not ask any corruption cases against any individual to be withdrawn simply because they joined his party or govern­ment.

“You don’t even have to call on Asiwaju Tinubu to bring the country together. When you talk of the real unifier, he is the one. You can see how he unified the party and steered it towards victory. So, it is not what anyone will have to call Asiwaju to do.

“By nature, Asiwaju likes bringing everybody together and that is what I expect to happen when his government comes on board. We are all look­ing forward to that.”
