APC's One Ward Win Cannot Shake PDP's Strong Foundation - Eric Akpan

…PDP Nsit Ibom will reply to every blackmail attempts at the poll on Saturday
…We’re a religion and we’ve worked to earn the people’s trust, Akpan

In what could be described as a staunch and unwavering stance, the Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Hon. Eric Akpan has affirmed that the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party cannot be shaken by the All Progressives Congress’ one-Ward win during the 2023 Presidential elections.

Akpan who was reacting to insinuations and allegations making the rounds that the PDP in Nsit Ibom LGA has collapsed its structure for the APC wondered why anyone will envisage that PDP that can collapse its structure for any party in the LGA.

Speaking to Media Professionals on Tuesday in Uyo, the two-term Chairman of Nsit Ibom LGA who was reacting to the allegation that the PDP has collapsed its structure for the APC, said that the insinuations were rather laughable as well as desperate attempts by the APC to smear his reputation after foreseeing their eminent loss at forthcoming Saturday’s poll.

He said, ‘’So if I don’t collapse structure for APC, they cannot win elections in Nsit Ibom Local Government? And that makes PDP a formidable party in that local government. We don’t want to bother about those things but I want to assure the people of Nsit Ibom and Akwa Ibom that I have never collapsed the structure of the party for anybody and will never do that.’’

Setting the records straight, Akpan stated that during the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections, the APC out of the 10 Wards in the Area won only one ward by fluke while the PDP won nine Wards convincingly, therefore cannot claim capacity now.

Akpan who queried between APC and PDP who should collapse its structures, the one that won nine Wards or the one that won only one Ward, said that APC’s insinuations were crafted out of mischief because the APC understands what it means to have the backing of the Local Government Chairman.

Akpan, himself the PDP Candidate for Nsit Ibom State Constituency noted that PDP is a well-structured and organized party that has stood the test of time and brought dividends of democracy and life-impacting development to citizens and remains the party to beat in any election in the State.

Akpan explained that the picture where he was seen kneeling before the APC Governorship Candidate, Mr. Akan Udofia that is circulating in the media space is not a recent picture or a depiction of his support for Mr. Akan.

He further explained that the pictures used by APC to mislead voters were taken in July 2020, when he went to consult Mr. Akan Udofia to seek his support during his second bid for the office of the Chairman, Nsit Ibom LGA.

Continuing, Akpan explained that Mr. Udofia’s reluctance to grant him attention, who then was a member of the PDP and son of Nsit Ibom made him kneel as a sign of humility and respect and to seek his blessings, not to collapse the PDP structure.

Insisting that PDP is a religion in the area, Akpan said ‘’if PDP is not a religion, why do they need the structure to win the election? Why do you even need to drag the Chairman’s name, thinking that that will make you win the election? Election is not won on pages of newspapers or on social media.

"This is unit by unit election. When you do unit-by-unit analysis, you will know PDP is extremely very strong in Nsit Ibom LGA.’’ He added.

He advised that the APC should rather dissipate its energy into campaigning for the elections and not cut corners by dragging his hard-earned reputation through murky waters just to curry favour and mislead people.

Speaking on the PDP’s preparedness for Saturday’s Poll, the PDP Candidate for Nsit Ibom State Constituency hinted that whether naysayers like it or not, the PDP is 100% ready for the election and well-grounded to win the poll based on its footprint, trust, and achievements in the area.

Akpan revealed that the PDP has mobilized unit by unit, ward by ward, educating the people and built a solid relationship with the people as well as x-ray its performances over the past years and arrived at the conclusion that nothing can truncate PDP’s victory in the 114 polling units in the area.

While assuring the people of Nsit Ibom of a secured and smooth process, Akpan called on voters to dismiss all speculations from naysayers and turn out en masse to vote for Pastor Umo Eno for governorship and Eric Akpan for State Assembly under the PDP.
