I moved into this compound about a year ago now.
Landlord told me that in no time we would all have our individual electricity meters.

This is a year + now and we still share the meter together ( we all use one single meter)

Now the problem is we have decided to pay #2500 each every month since we are 4 occupants of the house.

The agreement allows for one person to buy #2500 worth of electric units which carries us for one week, so that the next week another person buys, until we all have bought. Making a total of #10000 per month

I have been the one complying to this agreement as the other three persons will always come with excuses as for why they cant buy units at their own turn.

Pls what are the best ways to sort This kind of issues as I have called for meetings twice and alerted the landlord too to no avail.

Collect the #2500 at the same time and buy it at once. A lot of Nigerians can be inconsiderate.

Nigerians are naturally cunning in nature. If you have enough money, you can meet your landlord directly to give you permission to buy your own meter, and anytime you're leaving his house, he'll sell it to the next tenant that would come and use the money to reimburse you. If the landlord agrees, you buy it, if you're leaving and he's playing smart, just jejely disconnect it and sell it back for IE or EKEDC, they'll repackage it back and resell.

A friend of mine had a similar issue and that's what he did.

Lots of Nigerians are terrible and inconsiderate neighbors know this and know peace. It's just ways to cheat others that full some people's mind.

They can use the 2,500 you load but they can't pay when it gets to their turn abi, solution is everybody contribute the 2,500 I. E 10k for all and buy 10k units. If one person does not pay it means no loading of the prepaid, you will be in darkness for some days oo but that's the only way to cure this madness.

Even at that some won't even send they still won't pay and will prefer you all to be in darkness.

Alternatively you can get your own prepaid with your money, discuss with your landlord, if he can refund you later, some do sell it to their landlords finally when packing out.

That shared prepaid meter thing has caused so much katakata in some compounds.

It's better you guys buy 10,000 monthly, rather than that weekly rotation.

You have given them the impression that you need the light more than them, so they are all looking upto you and will keep promising you to bear with them

Simply buy a Generator for yourself
let the whole building be in darkness and you will see them seat up

I think I have acted like I need the light more than everyone. Cos I am always bordered when I come home and the compound is in darkness.

I have decided to to hold on to the meter console, henceforth no one light until we all contribute the 10k.

Do you even know that when there is no light the guy downstairs will move to his friend's place on the street only to return when ever I subscribe the light?

Ur own na small..we are 8 using one prepaid meter, and e nor dey funny at all. Some will codedly be using electric kettle and boiling ring against what we agreed.
U will be shocked by how educated people reason sometimes. One even refused to contribute 400 to repair light cos he wasn't around when it got spoilt, person wey drive car..wetin I never hear for my compound.

I advise u to close eye and buy generator or install inverter... enjoy urself and leave the rest to their stupidity.

personally, if it isn't family, I don't subscribe to anything 'shared'

I could be the one defaulting and put under pressure, or I could sound raving mad and be misconstrued when others are willfully not complying to agreement.

You can move out of the house for the sake of your peace and happiness or you buy generator/inverter/solar and watch them sit up interms of payment. Its obvious they are taking advantage of you.
Re: How Do You Cope With Compound Shared Electricity Meter by Honwuruwuru: 6:42pm On Mar 18, 2023
As simple as ABC, talk to your landlord and call electrician to disconnect their light. Whenever any of them pay, they can call back the electrician to come reconnect them and pay for his services.

Do this and see them sit up on their bills payment. Cos they won't like paying reconnection money to the electrician everytime.

It's a very simple matter. Your landlord makes the rules and everyone will have to abide to it. Try it and see miracle
