Union Leaders or blackmailers ?

Financial Industry watchers, alarmed by the blackmailing tactics of so called Union leaders of Union Homes, have called on the authorities to apply appropriate sanctions on culprits.

Some so-called Union leaders in Union Homes Savings and Loans Plc, an entity acquired by ASO Savings and Loans Plc acquired in 2014, have turned unionism and demand for better deals for staff into a tool of blackmail, threats to Management staff and seeming criminality requiring the urgent intervention of appropriate security agencies.

Sources close the Mortgage financial Institution disclosed that these few Unionists, who obviously do not enjoy the support of the generality of Staff, have continued to create a hostile workplace environment and put the Management Staff on edge with their fraudulent demands and unruly conduct.

Hiding under the guise of fighting malfeasance, this few Staff wrote a so called petition addressed to Security Agencies and sundry others, making spurious, unsubstantiated and outrightly false accusations.

"Ordinarily, said an Industry watchers, "if you write a petition to Security Agencies, you allow them to do their work, to do their findings and come up with their report. But not this desperate ones parading themselves as unionists. They have continued to harass the top Management Staff of the bank, subtly threatening them and blackmailing them with demands that no seasoned unionist will want to identify with."

"How can a Union be asking for promotion for all, whether deserved or not; how will a union be asking for Salary Increments, whether merited or not, in a Bank that is not making money, and with huge outstanding depositors' obligation. "

It was also learnt that these few guys, who have made the workplace one hell of an environment for staff, have even gone into the ridiculous extent of demanding for what it called "N1 Million Suffering and Hardship Allowance'" for each staff with a not too subtle threat to deal with Management Staff if they refuse to play ball.

An enraged Industry watcher noted: "These so called Unionists, like kidnappers, are demanding to be paid ransom. No Industry should allow this criminality, appropriate security agencies need to nip this in the bud by rounding these guys up and make them to face the music as you do to kidnappers when caught. This lawlessness must stop.

Below is one of the threat messages sent to one of the Management Staff by a key leader of the blackmailing team.

Good evening Mr....... and happy Sunday.
We know you have tried your utmost best which has not translated into our expected results yet.
We have prayed enough and can't continue to live on deferred and forlorn hope any more.
We need our Promotions, Salary increments and #1m suffering and hardship alleviation tomorrow. Tell your Principal that we need immediate implementation of of our requests or we will help everyone's career.
We have deliberately laid down the issues of #1.6b and #2.5b and every unwarranted, fictitious and obnoxious payments from Union Homes funds because of our demands.

However, we will no longer keep quiet if your Principal fail to oblige our demands by tomorrow.

A stitch in hand saves nine.
